02.24.09 ‘TOP MODEL’ IS LOWERING ITS STANDARDS

The CW will let Tyra Banks out of her padded room of mirrors to begin casting for the 13th iteration of “America’s Next Top Model” (cycle 12 begins March 4th – yay), and there are new requirements that all the contestants must be too short to actually model.  Makes sense.

[The first ]12 cycles [had] a minimum height requirement of 5’7” – matching the industry standard [...] For the first time in the show’s history, girls must be 5’7” and under in order to become America’s Next Top Model.

“There have been top supermodels in the past that weren’t as tall as the industry demands, like fashion icon Kate Moss,” said Banks. [Ed. Note: Kate Moss is 5'7"] “So we are changing up ‘Top Model’ for cycle 13 and making it a year for the shorter model!”

In other words, all the pretty girls who were tall enough have either already been on the show or have too much self-esteem.  But that’s a good call by Tyra and the CW, encouraging short models to dream big.  I understand the fashion industry is filled with friendly, open people who want to accommodate women of all different body types.  Or spite-filled gay minions of Satan.  I get those two mixed up.  Whatever, I’m sure they’ll do great!
