‘CONCHORDS’ IS GETTING WEIRDER
03.02.09Last night’s episode of “Flight of the Conchords” had some pretty cool guest appearances, including Mary Lynn Rajskub of “24,” Patton Oswalt, and, um, Art Garfunkel? (For more info, read the A.V. Club’s recap.) But the highlights, as is often the case, were the songs: the surreal “Korean Karaoke” by Bret (above) and “Demon Woman” by Jemaine (below).
I have an admission that’s gonna draw fire from the hipsterati: I think the humor in “FOTC” is too dry to be really funny. Wait! Don’t flame me yet! I willingly admit that it’s a good show, and I enjoy watching it. But when I watch it I always find myself thinking, “Oh, that’s droll” instead of, you know, laughing. I’m not lobbying for fart jokes or shots to the groin, I just want Bret and Jemaine to smile every now and again. They’re so handsome when they smile!

There’s a line in “Demon Woman” that goes “Your breasts are balls of flame.” If you don’t think that’s funny, then you’re dead to me.
@Otto
I could not agree more. Last week’s song about epileptic dogs had me crying from laughing so hard.
If you don’t think Conchords is the funniest show ever, you must be gay.
I also dont really think it is that funny.
And on the subject of comedy, I really hate these new generation of comedians that have come out in the last year or 2. Their stand up sounds like someone reading a blog entry.
It’s the random, dry, and not even remotely self-conscious nature of the show that makes it funny. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been watching an episode, and thought ‘What the h*ll are they doing?’ Then I completely lose it because it’s just so…awesome and weird.
East Bound & Down.
“Work, drugs!”
East Bound & Down.
You just described my reaction to the two hours I spent watching Shoot ‘Em Up.
I’ll go one step further and say it’s not funny at all.
The songs were awful last night. But Brian the Prime Minister was pretty fucking funny.
