GEORGE LOPEZ GETS A LATE-NIGHT SHOW
03.25.09Today in “future cancellation” news, TBS has announced that it will enter the late-night fray in November with a talk show starring George Lopez, best known for his work telling jokes you didn’t laugh at.
Lopez plans an “outdoor street-party atmosphere” featuring celebrity guests, live music and comedy acts. The show will also encourage audience members to interact with Lopez and his guests.
“George Lopez is a special talent, with an everyman appeal that makes him uniquely positioned to be the next great late-night host,” said Michael Wright, exec vp, head of programming, at TBS.
I don’t know. I was going to say that this hardly seems worth my scorn, but then I watched the clip above, and I suddenly wanted to firebomb TBS’s offices. Oh my God, Spanish-speaking people say J’s like H’s! That’s gold! Give that man a show!

the funniest thing about this is the comments from sports machine and tim. bravo sirs.
Talk about a guaranteed crapfest. Maybe Lopez can interview Tyler Perry and Mencia, and then the bunny snipers from Japan can pink mist the lot of them.
“What kind of fountain drinks do you have?”
“You’re the one sitting in your car staring at the menu, why don’t you tell me what kind of fountain drinks we have.”
“will also encourage audience members to interact with Lopez and his guests.”
Yeah because if there’s one thing celebrities love it’s interacting with audience members.
I’ve never been to a “latino outdoor street party” where someone wasn’t stabbed or the only white guy there wasn’t ragged on for mispronouncing “churros”, then subsequently stabbed, so I’ll probably be watching this.
A Lopez style “outdoor street party atmosphere”? 40 ouncers in paper bags, Screaming, and fighting, an upright bathtub with the Virgin Mary in it, bouncing low riders cruising by. Maybe I’ll watch after all.
I’m convinced the abortion known as Carlos Mencia was just a plot to get us to find Lopez funny by comparison.
This show will be jorrible.
On tonight’s George Lopez Show… Tyler Perry! That chick from My Boys! And the stand-up comedy of those guys from the commercials that are supposed to seem like stand-up routines!
Hey now, George Lopez has some funny bits too. Like the two Mexican girls about to get in a fight. “Mira, hold my baby.”
Unfortunately, the cops will show when it starts to get good.
