AW, CRAP. THIS ACTUALLY LOOKS GOOD.
04.15.09Yesterday Fox released the full-length trailer for next fall’s “GLEE,” the new show about a high school choir that will get a sneak preview this spring after the “American Idol” finale. It’s from the creators of “Nip/Tuck,” and it stars, uh… some young people who are good at singing. But more importantly, it looks good.
Now listen: no one likes calling things gay more than I do. Especially musical theater stuff. I like a good joke about jazz hands. I’ve wanted to strangle people who walk around singing opera or show tunes. So yeah, it would be easier to be all macho and act like I’m above watching this. On the other hand, “GLEE” has jokes about cripples and hepatitis. And if I missed out on that, I’d just be cheating myself.
Of course, maybe I just identify with the hunky young quarterback who also stars in the school’s musical. In that I was in the school’s musical and had a crush on the hunky young quarterback. Wait, what?

Dude, you gotta splash that drink on her shirt, not her face.
well……dammit….living with hepatitis is hard.
Know how I know you’re gay…
Did Ryan Murphy lift an entire scene from American Pie just be ironic or is he completely devoid of any creativity after driving Nip/Tuck into the ground?
That “high school” QB has the hairline of a 26 year old, who knows that his hair will be gone within 7 years. How do I know that? Because I am that guy also.
Didnt they learn their lesson with “Freaks and Geeks”? High school shows set in the Midwest that are about anything normal will fail.
Curse you for piquing my interest in a show about musical theater.
Mick- If the creators really wanted to be honest about the movies they were ripping off, they’d call this show, “Dreamgirls’ Pie.” Now that’s a title I could get on board with.
When you take a subject that is completely, undeniably lame and make it enjoyable and worth caring about…..that is the mark of true genius.
I know this is retard, but i thought it should be mentioned. The shows creator Ryan Murphy went to Warren Central High School here in Indianapolis (so did i), and when he was there, it was during Jeff George’s Football Dominance era. So the jocks and cheerleaders did rule the school. I know alot of this is based on Warren Central, because in the above video, when the Glee Club goes to see the “Other” show choir that’s doing the “Rehab” cover, you’ll notice the program he is holding says “Carmel High School”, which just happens to be WCHS rival, in Carmel, Indiana. Pretty funny to see high school rivalrys running that deep for that long. I know this is pointless, and bares no meaning in life, and I’m so much more pathetic for writing this, but screw it…I’m bored and it’s Thursday…enjoy the back story
First off, great blog post. I went to Westfield High School, just north of Carmel HS, where my wife went. There is actually a Youtube video of the real Carmel HS Ambassadors from 1988 that, other than different music, has a number of similarities to the Carmel performance in the show. The McKinley HS Glee club to me seems more like my native Westfield, as I’m guessing WCHS was a bit more together.
