Bill O’Reilly appeared on “The Late Show” with David Letterman last night, and Letterman did what he usually does when someone he holds in low esteem comes onto his show: he pretended to be kidding when he really wasn’t.  And so we get little uncomfortable exchanges like Letterman calling O’Reilly a “goon” and telling him point-blank “You’re not that entertaining.”

Letterman also steered much of the interview toward Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, fellow rightist ideologues with whom O’Reilly clearly does not openly ally himself.  And, to be fair, O’Reilly manages to prove himself to be much brighter and more verbally capable than Beck and Limbaugh, proving that he really is the Keith Olbermann of the right: about as smart, and just as much of an egomaniac.
