As an update to yesterday’s shameless plug for “The Wire,” here’s a skit from ChannelBee that I missed during its first go-round on the Net. It’s about some jackass who hasn’t seen “The Wire,” and although it’s only got one joke, it still falls into the ol’ funny-because-true category.
Seriously, don’t be that person who hasn’t seen “The Wire.” There is a reason why everybody else says it’s amazing and awesome and brilliant and the best show ever to appear on television. We’re not just blowing smoke up your ass. Although if that turns you on, I’ll do it for a price.
(thanks to commenter Rad Adam)

I like it despite the fact that if any person on that show ever made the ‘what!’ punking motion to me, I would crap my drawers and run back to the suburbs where I came from with dookie all up in my pants.
Season 4 is probably the best (or at least most heartbreaking), but I loved Season 5, too. The entire thing was a plot coming off the hinges, yet the writers (and actors) brought it back from the precipice of disaster while keeping it grounded in reality.
Although I must say that last season of “The Wire” was horrible. How could they go from that amazing 4 season run, to making a season that has no semblance to the writing style of the previous 4 seasons.
Even though I have seen all episodes of “The Wire” I have never seen one episode of “The Sopranos” because I just think it’s going to be an hour of
“What the fuck is wrong with you, you mulli loving no good pasta sauce making jew mother fucker”
And I have the feeling that same logic goes for people who have no desire to see “The Wire”. They think it’s going to be cops putting a wire tap on a phone and the bad guy goes away at the end of the episode.
What WWSM said.
+1 BSR
HBO has done a nice job of assembling a group of shows that have become cult hits, many of which are overrated.
I’ve never seen “The Wire”. I usually see it listed on my cable guide and figured it somehow had something to do with Wall Street, or a newspaper. But since it has “negroes” in it I know that’s not possible so maybe I’ll check it out.
womAn, not womEn. But you get the point.
Counterpoint: If you’ve actually watched The Wire and don’t like it, you are either:
1. A suburban women offended by bad language
2. An old person confused by the cheeky way those negroes sass each other
3. Too busy wiping the sperm off your chin to focus on the most brilliant writing ever to make it onto a tv screen.
without watching the wire, I can now say I think it’s stupid. This obsession is starting to remind me too match of the Twihard fans of twilight. And we all know how that movie was. Seriously, a vampire that fucking sparkles? That’s some pretty gay shit right there.
I have seen the Wire. it was dull.
I tried watching a second time. It was still dull.
I would not even bring it up but you shameless plug deserves a response.
Rectifying the situation right now, sir. I still like the Sopranos better, but I’m only into the first season. I hear the later ones are better.
