This news was expected, but that makes it no less thrilling: HBO has ordered a full season (nine episodes) of “Treme” (pronounced tremmee, according to the Internet’s local Cajun), the David Simon-created series that focuses on musicians in post-Katrina New Orleans.
Simon co-created the project with longtime New Orleans resident Eric Overmyer, after the two former “Homicide” writers had discussed doing a show set in the Big Easy for years…
The “Treme” cast is led by another New Orleans native, Wendell Pierce, and includes Steve Zahn, Clarke Peters, Khandi Alexander, Melissa Leo, Kim Dickens and Rob Brown.
Despite featuring “Wire” alums Pierce [Bunk Moreland] and Peters [Lester Freamon], people expecting the same show will be disappointed, Simon said.
“This is not a ‘Wire’ redo with a New Orleans soundtrack,” he said. “It’s more of a character study looking at people trying to reconstruct their lives after their city has been destroyed and at a city that’s a living, breathing organism.”
Bottom line: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it too early for champagne? No? Well then, it’s unfortunate that I have no champagne. I’m even out of champale. But you can drink cooking wine, right? Cheers!

Rip Taylor,
Classy response. You don’t have to watch but for the rest of us who enjoy well written, well acted television this is good news. Also, when is the last time you were in New Orleans? 70% of the city STILL has not been rebuilt. We can offer up billions in bailout money but we can’t help a dying American city. We need this show now more than ever.
*yerp*
Khandi Alexander is so scorchingly hot that when she played the drug addict on “The Corner” miniseries, I still thought, “yeah, I’d hit that in a second.”
But when she was on News Radio? Lordy.
Really? Khandi Alexander? I don’t get it…
And, by the way, it’s pronounced truh-MAY.
Is it wrong to say that HBO has a Hurricane Katrina fetish?
We get it. Black people lost their homes and got raped in the Superdome. It’s no longer news. It’s no longer exciting.
As long as the show properly displays Kandi Alexander’s glorious chocolate chest mounds, I am there!
Can’t say the same for my pants, tho.
@Sex Cannon:
+1
Wait, you meant Stairway, right?
Michael Bay has signed on to guest-direct one episode. That week, the show’s title will be ExTreme.
“This is not a ‘Wire’ redo with a New Orleans soundtrack,”
– I understand that. But it’ll still be a show about cops, drug dealers, and urban decay, set to a cool New Orleans musical back drop, produced by the guys from the Wire, right?
I would fuck the bejeezus out of Khandi Alexander. Steve Zahn though? Really?
Hells to the yes.
Music and post-Katrina New Orleans, huh? Led Zeppelin has just the song for the opening sequence.
No McNulty?
