After the initial pilot tested well, Fox has picked up “The Human Target,” which, as any pasty-faced dork (read: me) can tell you, is one of the better comic books of the last decade. From the Hollywood Reporter:
Based on the DC Comics title, the show centers on Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), a mysterious freelancer who offers a unique form of security for hire: He assumes the identities of people in danger, becoming the “human target” on behalf of his clients.
Jackie Earle Haley [Sweet!] and Chi McBride co-star in the project written by Jon Steinberg and directed by Simon West. The two exec produced the pilot with McG [uh-oh].
Of course, this is not the first time “The Human Target” has been brought to the small screen. Think back — way back — to the summer of 1992. The nation was mired in a recession following a war in the Middle East, but there was hope stirring in the coming election, and the time was right for an action series starring RICK EFFING SPRINGFIELD as the Human Target. (Perhaps if he can adopt Jesse’s identity, he’ll finally have a chance at his girl.) Watch video from the original series below, including bonus scenes with David Carradine and R. Lee Ermey.

I guess not EVERYTHING David Carradine does is gold…
Fox needs things to cancel next year, good planning Fox. Dicks.

Matt,
I wasn’t calling you out. I have no idea about the history of this comic/ I just love how some comic books are called graphic novels because they’re bound. I mean, how could they bring Watchmen to the screen if viewers couldn’t feel the different paper textures!??!?!
Rick Springfield in 1992 – FAIL.
Jesse – still fucking his girl.
Holy shit pickle! I thought I was the only one who remembered that Springfield series (He was also the first Nick Knight back when Batman was Beetlejuice) This makes me happy, until the 3rd or 4th epsiode when they cancel it. It is Fox…

Now I really wanna see the rest of the episode to see what David Carradine does.
That bomb was so powerful it shined the aide’s shoes.
Nice continuity work there, boys.
Don’t you mean “graphic novel?”
If I can buy it in one book, I feel okay calling it a graphic novel. While the revamped Human Target from Vertigo started out as a graphic novel, the following comic series (and subsequent trades) are what established it in the comics landscape, IMHO.
/pushes glasses up nose, gets beaten up
R. Lee is such a badass, he didn’t get so much as a scratch from that explosion. How did that show not take off???
