“Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” are arguably the two best shows on television right now, and it kind of blows my mind that they’re both on AMC, which previously only ran old movies that Ted Turner had colorized.  Not only that, but they’re the ONLY two original series on AMC.  That’s a 100% success rate for their present original programming, approximately 98-100% better than most other channels.

But we’ll see if AMC can go three-for-three now that it’s picked up “Rubicon,” which will air next year.

“Rubicon,” from writer Jason Horwitch and Warner Horizon and directed by Allen Coulter, zeroes in on New York analyst Will Travers (James Badge Dale, “24″) who uncovers a clue to an unfolding global conspiracy while working at a national think tank.  Miranda Richardson and Lili Taylor have also been tapped to star in the 12-episode series. At the very least, I’m cautiously optimistic.  It’s got a good cast, plus it references the phrase “crossing the Rubicon,” which means passing the point of no return.  The origin of the phrase, of course, comes from the fallout when you swindle people at the nation’s largest convention for hillbilly suckers.  Oh wait.  I’m thinking of “RubeCon.”  Never mind.
