MOTHER OF THE YEAR
06.12.09Access Hollywood (via everywhere) recently released this pre-interview footage from January in which Kate Gosselin of “Jon and Kate + 8″ shows off parenting skills only slightly more caring than the hamsters that eat their babies. Eight-year-old twin Mady — no doubt tired from getting shuttled around to TV interviews so your parents can increase their fame and wealth — was thirsty and sitting next to her mother, and she asked Kate for a drink. And what happens next isn’t even remotely believable, so I’m going to give you the transcript without commentary:
Mady: I just want a drink. I haven’t had a drink all day. I want a drink, I’m going to get dehydrated.
Kate (cutting her off): Alexis, that’s adorable.
Mady: Mom, I’m gonna get dehydrated.
Kate: Yes, me too.
Mady: (begins to slump down)
Kate: That’s true. Could I — could I have a bottle? Is there time to throw a bottle of water at me? (someone hands her a bottle of water) Thank you. Okay, all right. Got it. (takes long drink of water, puts bottle away) After this, Judy will somehow manage to get drinks in here for you.
Mady: I need a drink NOW.
Kate (to another child): Hey, sit down please. Sit down, we’re interviewing.
Mady: You’re really, really mean.
Kate: Be quiet.
Mady: You drank it right in front of my face.
Kate: Here. (reaches for water, then puts it away again) We can’t right now, we’re going on.
I don’t usually like to play the role of Christian fundamentalist, but you know how Jon and Kate needed fertility drugs to have children? That was God trying to keep Kate from reproducing.

She is an awful mother. Mommy dearest. When her kids are all grown they will have nothing to do with her anymore. She will deserve it too.
The working kid asked for water. Not Kool-aid, Not Star bucks hot chocolate. She asked for water which is a necessity of life. For that nasty mother to deny her kid who is asking for water then to drink in front of her is heinous. I don’t care if everyone will want water or go to the bathroom. That is what real children do.
SERIOUSLY!!! if there is ANY time to PRETEND to be a good mom, its when you are at an interview for a television show that has already trashed your parenting skills and there are cameras watching your every move. How stupid is Kate? And yall are SO right. i mean if one has a drink then they all will want one. And then theyll want to go to the bathroom. And all that will mean that someone will have to BE A PARENT!! (btw do you really think Kate would have had to get up to take a child to the bathroom? does she EVER actually do anything for her kids besides yell at them?) isnt it funny that she makes all this money for having so many children and “parenting” them, but she cant be bothered to do typical parental duties like… giving your children water which would then possibly lead to a trip to the bathroom…. But ok, maybe there was a shortage on water… maybe there wasnt a bathroom nearby.. WTF was she doing drinking the water in front of that poor kid who had asked for it? Kate says “That’s true. Could I — could I have a bottle? Is there time to throw a bottle of water at me?” Nice… thats teaching your kids to only look out for yourself… I cant stand that woman. I can only imagine the therapy those kids are going to need. I really hope that one day she realizes what she has done to them.
Well I am no fan of this harpy, but we really don’t have any context here. Children learn to lie and exaggerate right around the second word that comes out of their mouths, so you can’t hardly take the “I’m thirsty” complaints as definitive proof that she hasn’t had adequate hydration. Plus little kids that drink water also have to pee, usually 7 seconds later.
As a mom I can see the dynamic at play here. Kate is trying to keep her kids still and calm. If she had given whiny Mady a drink, the whole herd would have clammered for one. What you do for one you have to do for all. I don’t understand however is why mom asked for and drank the water in front of Mady. Maybe mom thought she might have time to give her a quick drink (when she was bending down to retrieve the bottle off the floor), but then it appeared that Kate was given a signal and the action shifted to the business at hand. I have a lot of kids (not as many as Kate) and I have dealt with a few kiddy whiners and manipulators as well in my time.

Couple things…
1) The day Kate put her kids in the street (on a reality TV show), she invited in our collective judgment. In fact, she is making a shit-ton of money by providing us with fodder to judge.
2) No one is judging her based solely on this clip. The entire nation is judging her based on hundreds of eye witness accounts of, and researched stories published about, her parenting skill, her hunger for money, and her (and her husband’s) willingness to subject the kids to an unhappy marriage and complete loss of privacy, for cash. I’d say that’s pretty good context.
I was thinking they should close the internet after La Smoove won this post.
Then I was really wishing they had closed it once JoLo and Marc with a c got into it.
I didn’t say she was awful. I’m saying we don’t know what’s going on. and it isn’t our place to judge how she parents her kid. Do you know how many times your mom or dad probably told you “no you cant have that” in your lifetime? has it scarred you? have a little perspective.
JoLo…..What an awful selfish kid Mady is! Asking for water!! The nerve!!! Kate had a bottle of water in her hand…she couldn’t give a sip to Mady? What an awful child Mady is for being thirsty!

im sorry if i dont judge this woman on one interaction taken out of context. we know jack shit about her kids. maybe that kid is the one that always wines for shit, that’s always asking for everything in the store.
if you wanna say she’s bad mother for exploiting her kids for money from a tv show then fine. but calling her a bad mom because she told her kid no when they asked for something, is not friggin child abuse. parents saying yes to everything their kids ask for is how we end up with whiny selfish adults.

Can you say “blowing this out of proportion”. Jeez, so what, she told her kid she couldn’t have a drink big deal. Parents aren’t supposed to cater to every whim their child has.
If there was any doubt how selfish that woman can be, here is the proof. If my child was thirsty and trying to get a drink like Mady was, the first thing I would do when given a bottle of water would be to give it to her. I really can’t believe a parent would be that uninterested in her child’s needs.
Well they’re gonna have to create ‘em eight at a time to keep up with my porn needs.

You can’t just give the kid water when she asks for it. Because after that she’ll want a snack, and after that love and affection… it never stops.
