Last night’s episode of “True Blood” had the usual dose of gore and Anna Paquin’s boobs, but one of the highlights was this non sequitur performance of “Jesus Asked Me Out Today” by Amanda Jane and the God Rockets at the hardcore Christian/vampire-hating camp that Jason Stackhouse is attending.  Soap actress Molly Burnett, who played the religious vixen, talked to the New York Post’s PopWrap about the role:

PopWrap: Where did that genius track come from?
Molly Burnett: [The writers]. I thought it was great because here you have this provocative pop star moving around like Britney Spears, talking about saving herself for Jesus. It’s gold.
PW: There is a lot of Miss Spears in your performance, did you look to her as an inspiration?
Molly: I kind of did my own thing, but I may have referenced Britney a la the catholic school girl pig tail days!

It’s nothing that Saved! and Hamlet 2 didn’t already cover, but I tend to laugh at any joke that sexualizes Jesus, just because I know it’s so wrong.  I like to imagine Jesus going for anal with a girl on the first date, then ignoring her prayers that He return her calls. That’s cold, Jesus!
