And I thought the authenticity was what made it funny, similar to Conan’s “Stackenblochen”. Please don’t give up on me. I still want to emulate you.

(Yeah, maybe this was actually greenlit by Sprite as a viral to make its brand “edgier” or whatever, but I guarantee you the “German” background story makes it a hoax, since no German censor could have possibly seen this very ad…)

Of course I know that ad agencies routinely adopt commercials made for other markets or even have foreign companies produce ads for them. But don’t you think that, come the time of dubbing, they will ask some native speakers to do that? Especially while working for mighty Coca-Cola? And they won’t employ somebody unable to use a CI-Guide to find the actual slogan used in German speaking markets? And why should the media agency then go ahead and submit an ad to air with a clearly false slogan? Because it needs to be submitted in its final cut so that censors could object to that (In fact, Germany has no formal censors, only the FSK as voluntary regulatory body, to approve for this sort of screen commercial – the only federal agency that could take action, the “Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien”, could have only “censored” it if this ad had been on air…).
