AND THE NOMINEES ARE…

The Emmy nominations were released this morning, and as a TV blogger I’m obliged to make it sound like I care. Not surprisingly, AMC’s “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” both got outstanding Drama Series nominations, along with “Big Love,” “Damages,” “Dexter,” “House,” and “Lost.” Can’t say I really have a beef with that list.
Things take a curious turn at Outstanding Comedy Series, however. “Entourage” and “Weeds” both picked up noms (NOM NOM NOM), which is strange because I thought comedy series were designed to make people laugh.
I was going to put the full list after the jump, but there are like 800,000 different awards for best cinematography for a single camera show about pandas, so I limited the list below to awards you might potentially care about. Full list here if it really matters to you.

The Shield is the new Wire. Fucking awesome series that continually gets forgotten about in lieu of shit shows like Damages (this season was awful) and Big Love.
I have yet to meet one single person who watches Monk. One. Does anyone here watch it? Is it worth Tony Shishkabob winning every year?
The inclusion of some legit shows (Lost, Madmen, 30 Rock) does nothing to make up for the fact that the Emmy’s are a complete abortion. I think nominations of shows like Saving Grace, The Closer, Monk, Samantha Who just proves that fat housewives from flyover states ultimately dictate 90% of the television programing.
What the fuck is Family Guy doing nominated for best comedy series?
Really?
That’s what they nominated over East Bound & Down?
That’s just … depressing. Then again, these are the Emmys which year after year give you reasons to wish harm upon the American public.
If you win for Outstanding Voice Over Performance, I think you should have to accept in character. I would pay to see Hank Azaria berate the Hollywood audience for thinking they’re so high and mighty because they’ve never been caught driving without pants.
Yeah, “Entourage” is way funnier than “It’s Always Sunny…”
@Vodka: we haven’t actually met, but I used to watch Monk. If you liked Zero Effect, you’ll probably find that Monk is derivative and a waste of your time. If you hated Zero Effect, you’ll hate Monk even more. If you’ve never seen Zero Effect you’ll have no idea what I’m talking about.
I actually liked Zero Effect. Nice pull, man.

Well I think Entourage is pretty good
Man, most of this shit doesn’t deserve the nomination. Let me speak for Nerds everywhere when I say there are an obscene amount of canceled shows that, if they weren’t canceled, would have wiped the floor with most of the nominees.
“Monk” is a comedy?!?!?
Slim pickings for “Lead Actress in a comedy series”. John Belushi was right – chicks ain’t funny.
I hope I hope I HOPE that when they read the least of best actress nominees, the clip they use for Sarah Silverman is the one of her licking her dog’s butthole.
That’s the kind of subtle, nuanced performance you never see from Dame Judy Densch.
Was the 5th Season of The Wire eligible for the emmys this year? Because if so, then once again I hope everyone who is even the slightest bit associated with nominations to contract syphilis and die.
In order to express my dissapointment that Its Always Sunny in Philidelphia getting robbed, i’ll draw a sketch of the Green Man clutching a bloody chainsaw with the cast of Entourage’s shredded corpses on the ground.
