THIS LOOKS EXCELLENT
07.14.09FX has greenlit a new animated comedy series called “Archer” scheduled to debut this fall. It’s from the creators of “Frisky Dingo” and “Sealab 2021,” so I don’t think it’s hyperbole to call this show awesome after only watching this very funny two-minute clip. From The Live Feed:
Set at ISIS, an international spy agency where global crises are merely opportunities for its highly trained employees to confuse, undermine, betray and royally screw each other, “Archer” features the voices of Jon Benjamin as suave master spy Sterling Archer, whose less-than-masculine code name is “Duchess”; Jessica Walter as Malory, his domineering mother and boss; Aisha Tyler as his ex-girlfriend Agent Lana Kane; Chris Parnell as ISIS comptroller and Lana’s new love interest Cyril Figgis; and Judy Greer as Malory’s lovesick secretary Cheryl.
That’s a pretty solid ensemble cast, but as “Sit Down, Shut Up” demonstrated, solid ensemble casts don’t mean dick for animation. I’m more interested in this because it has funny writing and the animation doesn’t look like it was drawn by a moderately talented third grader. Lookin’ at you, Mike Judge.

This show is incredibly funny, and it is the first thing on TV that I have seen in a while that had me cracking up to the point of being in tears. I can’t wait till January for this one to start. Good enough for an “Archer night” party! I freaking love it!
isn’t that guys voice the same as the guy who plays satan in the venture brothers?
don’t really care for hearing benjamin reading someone else’s material. i would much rather listen to him improv.
It’s like a Kola Bear crapped a rainbow in my brain!
Boosh!
/Every other awesome catchphrase in these those combined
Adam Reed and Jon Benjamin together? That is too much awesomeness for one show to contain.
I want more of this. Immediately.
*Pours out a Taquil Tallboy for Frisky Dingo/X-Tacles. Sucks it out of the carpet once realizes the rest of the booze is all the way in the kitchen*
Eh, I’ll give it a shot.
Dammit. I’m in, too.
(programs Tivo)
Frisky Dingo/Xtacles need to come back. Boosh.
I will watch anything with Dr. Leo Spaceman in it.
/dee-ah-beet-us?
Jon Benjamin is always great (as is Aisha Tyler), and this looks like it has Sealab’s writing style, so I’m in.
It may not look like it was drawn by a moderately talented third grader, but it feels like the animation was timed by one: too mechanical and sluggish. It actually undermines the performances.
I would push the pope into traffic to get to Aisha Tyler.
/would do it anyway/
