Matt Damon’s not involved in the project; I just like having him around.
HBO has ordered a full season of “Boardwalk Empire,” starring Steve Buscemi and produced by Martin Scorsese, who will also direct the pilot. In other words, this show is going to be outstanding.
Written by Terence Winter, “Empire” is set in 1920 at the dawn of Prohibition and chronicles the life and times of Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster. Production on the series is slated to begin this fall for a 2010 premiere. [THR]
Naturally, it took the Internet .02 seconds to call this the next Sopranos, but I think that’s not a tall enough expectation. People, we’re looking at the prospect of Steve Buscemi speaking in 1920s gangster slang. “We got a new batch’a brown at the barrel house, see? And it ain’t no coffin varnish, neither. Yer gonna need to ditch those glad rags and haul the product back in your breezer. Now dry up and go chase yerself, fella.” CAN. NOT. WAIT.

Set in the 1920′s? You might want to print this out if you plan on watching it.

It’s the frog’s eyebrows, I tell ya.
@ UU
That is my new favorite thing. It’ll give me something to look at during my Mouthpiece School classes.
@UU — I’ve always preferred “fire extinguisher” to “alarm clock” for chaperone.
@Matt – and I have always preferred “pins” to “stilts” for legs.
On that list:
Cake-eater – A wearer of tight clothes, belted coat with spearlike lapels and one button, sausage trousers, low quick fitting collar, greenish pink shirt; and one of those jazzbo ties that gives you the giggles.
So, Adam Banks was gay?
@DG, I would have guessed a “cake eater” was slang for a fat girl.
It’s nothing but a bunch of corn-shredders, airedales and appleknockers around here.
In other news, I’d like to stutter-tub Christina Hendricks.
This show is going to be big. Gabby Hayes big!
But will it be bigger than Scorsese’s GATSBY???
Now yer on the trolley…
I liked it better when it was called “Bugsy”
And to think, I’ve been using the wrong connotation for “boob-tickler” all along.
This really is the bee’s knees, UU. Well done.
If you’re having trouble being patient, watch Miller’s Crossing – Steve Buscemi (in a bit part), and lots of great ’20s slang.
