Back in June, MTV announced that it was looking to develop a series based on Teen Wolf, the 1985 movie in which Michael J. Fox becomes popular by turning into a monster. At the time, execs essentially said that they’d make it more like Twilight, so the news that this is getting a pilot is a great development for virgin goth teens who prefer werewolves to vampires.
The MTV version will be set in high school, draw from the horror genre to explore werewolf mythology and include a romantic plot line.
“It has a fresh take and is very different from the original,” said Liz Gateley, senior vp MTV series development. “It has more of an ‘American Werewolf in Paris’ feel to it. It’s a dramatic thriller with two best friends in the center who provide a great comedy element: They are two very relatable characters on the outer circles of popular cliques.”
There’s a monster — but he’s relatable. It’s a dramatic thriller — but totally funny! It’s like a buddy story — but with a separate romantic plot line! It explores werewolf mythology — but in a totally fresh way!
“So you want a realistic down-to-earth show that’s completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots?”

@ LA Schmoove:
Was it a six dollar haircut?
Sounds like he’ll be getting into hairy situations.
This idea sucks ass
Yo, yo! How’s it hangin’ everybody?
I looked at that picture without first reading the headline and I thought, “Wow, Mick Jagger looks great!”
At least she didn’t say the show will “explore relationships.” If I hear that hackneyed description for another movie or TV show I’ll go postal (or Pacman).
why doesn’t mtv make a tv show about boring c u next tuesdays only make it like a real life documentary ……………. oh they did that that show was the real f’ing piece of shit “the motherfucking Hills” come on mtv stop being shite. Teenwolf was the eightys something original would be great
when did Eric Roberts get a TV show?
And also, you should win things by watching!
30 Seconds to Mars is already recording the soundtrack
This is shifting the paradigm. It is totally in my face.
Vampires and werewolves? WON’T SOMEONE THINK OF THE MUMMIES!!!
I saw a werewolf drinking a frappachino at Trader Vic’s.
His hair was perfect
Does Liz Gateley ever hear herself talk?
She should have her tubes tied so we could have fewer retards around, potentially running TV networks.
@Ryabusa
In the series finale, teen wolf will go back to his home planet but will die midway through.
Excellent Simpsons reference my good man.
They should call Teen wolf “Poochy” in this.
It’s relevant because every few minutes the two main characters will crack jokes while watching random music videos.
I like that they are trying to hype it as being like “An American Wherewolf in Paris.”
NOT “American Wherewolf in London” the well respected John Landis movie of the 1970′s, but “in Paris” the craptastic cash in, in name only sequel from the 1990′s.
So basicallly MTV is admitting this will be boring and unorginal and trying to get people excited about it.
Didn’t ABC Family do this like 10 years ago with Big Wolf on Campus? Rachelle Lefevre was a supporting character, who coincidentally is in Twilight.
