Let’s be clear on one thing: James Franco ain’t care. Dude looks like James Dean, is in blockbuster movies like Spider-Man, hangs out with the Judd Apatow crew (Pineapple Express, “Freaks and Geeks”), and he put his acting career more or less on hold to get an M.F.A. in writing at Columbia. Naturally, the next step in his career is… a stint on daytime soap “General Hospital”? Sure, man. Whatever.

His first of three scheduled tape dates is Oct. 30 for an arc that begins airing on Nov. 20. Jori Petersen of ABC Daytime says Franco’s story will last a few months. “The only thing I can tell you about his character right now is he is playing a mysterious person who comes to Port Charles who will be Jason Morgan’s worst nightmare,” Petersen said. The consensus is that Franco would have to be high or insane to stoop down to soaps after establishing a successful film career, but I say why the hell not? There are hot chicks on “General Hospital,” right? That’s gotta beat licking cake off Sean Penn’s nose in Milk.
