LENO NOW LOSING TO RERUNS
10.28.09Part of the reasoning for NBC feeling all cocky about Jay Leno’s 10 p.m. talk show was the belief that new Leno shows would gain in the ratings when the dramas competing in the time slot inevitably went to reruns. According to a new report from Schadenfreude Daily, nope.
Monday, the presence of a repeat of “C.S.I. Miami,” the most formidable network competition Mr. Leno faces on that night, did not provide any relief from a recent spate of declining numbers for NBC in the 10 p.m. hour.
In the initial overnight ratings, Mr. Leno hit his lowest numbers yet for a Monday, with just 4.6 million viewers and only a 1.3 rating among the group that NBC uses as its standard for success –viewers between the ages of 18 and 49.
That 1.3 was below even the modest number NBC executives announced before the season as what would be acceptable for Mr. Leno: a 1.5. [NYT]
I honestly can’t get enough of these stories about Leno failing. I actually kind of hope he stays on the air just so I can keep reading about him continuing to fail. Thank you, NBC, for making this atrocious decision. Now if CBS would just get around to firing Letterman, we can finally anoint Conan king. Nothing personal, Dave, but you did get to nail a lot of women during your tenure.

Its mi or Horatio its trying to put some glasses on and he already have´s them on
In the third panel, is Horatio putting sunglasses on while already wearing sunglasses? Perfect.
Haha, that Horatio cartoon was great!

call me crazy, but I think Fallon’s doing better than Conan or Leno
I’m with you, Matt- I want Leno to stay on the air just so we can see what unexpected show will top him next. My internal reaction to this latest ratings failure is that of a small child rubbing her hands together and grinning evilly. The real question remains- how long is NBC going to keep this up before admitting defeat?
If anyone cares, Sykes will be on Saturday nights on FOX, taking the same spot that MadTV withered and died at.
at Enrico Pallazzo: I completely agree, Joel was one of the better things about Conan, Andy has gotten terrible from a decade of bad movies and sit-coms. I really wish they had done some sort of Tribute to Joel leaving, he was the man. I like that I read this blog and don’t even have anyway to access live TV in my apt.
I’m sure the monkeys that love CSI: Miami didn’t even realize it was a repeat.
P.S. YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
Sykes? Lopez? Surely this is all an elaborate plot by the government to get us to go to bed earlier.
Lopez will be on at 11. Sykes, I don’t know.
Matt, I’ve seen ads for George Lopez and Wanda Sykes doing “late night” shows. Are these gonna air during Leno’s time slot? Granted, I find neither of them remotely funny, but maybe more competition will finally sink Leno.
Conan would be better if he fired Andy and brought back uber-creepy announcer, Joel Goddard.
Conan will be a lot better off when Jon Stewart replaces Dave to a resounding yawn.
so basically more people watched that gang-rape in California than last night’s Leno.
That should be the new motto – “The Jay Leno Show: Almost As Popular as Gang Rape!”
and while you’re at it…quit trying to sell me a Ford Focus
Where the hell is the original source to those CSI cartoons, I can’t find it anywhere. Just awesome.
Dave getting fired would be great if it meant Craig Ferguson would get to move up. Then again, that might be a bad choice if that means he gets all neutered at an earlier time slot like Conan did.
I actually kind of hope he stays on the air just so I can keep reading about him continuing to fail.
They might as well keep him on – it’s not like we’d watch whatever crap they roll out to replace him.
