OK, I feel like I'm back in college!
I'll jump right in....The 1st 11 comments are made by juveniles who obviously are still at the developmental age young boys go through where every body fluid & every sound which is made by any bodily function is considered hilarious & of necessity must be shared with every other boy of the same age group. Waste of anyone's time having to wade through the childish idiocy.

How much easier it is to be critical than to be correct.

I think that it is absolutely inhumane to take a primates teeth out. I have owned monkeys for years now and they still have ALL of their teeth. Getting bit is a risk I am willing to take, but still after 10 years my Capuchins have NEVER made me draw blood. They are my babies and I will always love them. You should never alter any animal to fit your standards, if altering what they are is the only way you will get one, then they are not for you! How about you change for the monkey... don't make the monkey change for you.

I do not like some of the comments I am reading and how people are speaking lies about primate ownership. Monkeys can make exceptional companions in captivity. They form a bond with their caretakers and will do anything to please them and make them happy. I do believe in fair regulation, but come on, there are dogs attacking people every day (even killing people) and we do not say a word about dogs being kept as pets. It is very rare to see a primate, let alone a monkey, attack their owner. An attack can even be as simple as pulling your hair or scratching someone. Monkeys rarely result to biting unless you are really doing something to them that they do no like and they have warned you one too many times. Although I do believe that apes should be outlawed because of their size and the amount of damage they could do to a person. But a monkey? Come on, monkeys are great animals and I love sharing my house with them! I trust them around strangers, and they are six years old and have never bitten once in their life! Of course they play bite like dogs... But bites and scratches can ALWAYS be avoided. They WILL warn you if you are doing something that they do not like. It is always the owners fault... and did you know that there has NEVER been a death caused by a pet primate? And there are people KILLED by dogs every day! It is crazy to say that monkeys are dangerous when they actually are not. Also, they do NOT pose a risk to disease transmission to humans. I drink out of the same cup as my monkeys and share food with them! I am still as healthy as I was before I had monkeys... People need to actually experience private ownership of these amazing creatures before just giving them a bad reputation. For the right people, who have the time and money, monkeys can be the best experience of your life!

I am SO Upset that the "learning channel" is showing a program that portrays pet monkey ownership in such a positive light. In this day and age I would have thought that television producers would be better informed, especially on a network called the LERANING CHANNEL. Following are some FACTS about monkeys and how detrimental pet ownership is to them and the families that purchase or adopt them. PLEASE take this show off the air.

1. Pet primates pose a risk to public health and safety through communicableillness/diseases such as Herpes B, hepatitis, and intestinal pathogens and throughinjuries inflicted during sudden and unpredictable episodes of aggressive behavior.

2. Elimination of the legal trade in pet primates aids enforcement of federal legislation thatprohibits private ownership of those nonhuman primates regulated by the Centers forDisease Control (Code of Federal Regulations Subchapter F - Quarantine,Inspection, Licensing Part 71 Foreign Quarantine).

3. Pet primates are often maintained in inadequate housing and without consideration fortheir physical, social and psychological needs.

4. There is an adverse impact on wild populations through the smuggling and import ofprimates which ultimately end up in the pet trade.

5. Pet primates are unable to contribute genetically to those conservation programs in whichthey are needed due to their isolation from the managed population and also in manycases to deficits in their social skills related to their rearing and maintenance inisolation from other non-human primates.
