UMMMM… HELP ME OUT HERE
10.22.09All right, I don’t like to get into politics, because the the subject matter is complex and confusing and unsexy. And I know that I’m a week behind the issues here. But… did I miss something? Rape is still bad, right? And gang rape is even worse than regular rape, yes? I’m not making that up, am I?
Thirty senators voted against an amendment to keep the government from hiring companies that prevent their employees from suing if they get raped. Not a big, complex bill — an amendment. THIRTY SENATORS. For rape. Three-tenths of America’s upper legislature. Is this really 2009? Did I wake up in a Arab state? In the year 1735? And if so, how am I using the Internet? HOLY HELL. Honey, break out my dick-punchin’ gloves. We’re going to Washington.

Um, no. The lawsuit is in the process of going to trial in open court right now. Get your facts straight.
“it doesn’t limit the victim’s ability to go after them on a criminal level – she has already successfully done so.”
No.
“In May 2007, a State Department diplomat recovered the rape kit from Halliburton and KBR. However, notes and photographs taken by Schultz (of Jones the morning following her rape) were missing, undermining any chances of bringing the case through the criminal courts.”
@ Cold Tub:
So noted, I just like the Foghorn Leghorn Senator voice. However, the Yankee Senator’s speech would also contain “Hail Satan” in any case.
Jesus, some of you people love to drink the Kool-Aid. Are you all that dumb?
The purpose of the amendment is to bar the Defense Department from contracting with any company that requires arbitration to settle disputes with employees. The problem with this doesn’t lie in the protection of rape victims – there is none. In fact, arbitration is not binding in cases of rape, and it doesn’t limit the victim’s ability to go after them on a criminal level – she has already successfully done so. The problem is totally and completely unrelated to the rape protection pretense they’re floating out there.
Fucking read a book, already.
All I know is that there are going to be some awesome campaign commercials in the next election.
“Tom(R) voted for Rape. Maybe Tom wants to rape your daughter? In the face? Maybe hire a black guy to do it to her?”
I’d just like to point out that men have been known to rape other straight men. Particularly in high stress, heavily male environments with little supervision.
How do you feel about that arbitration clause now, gentlemen?
I haven’t read the bill or even read the news about it, but I’m quite sure the issue isn’t whether the employees have a right to a CRIMINAL trial against the rapist, but whether the employee has to pursue their CIVIL claims (for money) against their employer (not the rapist) in either state court or in arbitration.
thank you taco jones for being the voice of reason… yes i just want to be raped in peace… that is exactly what i was trying to get at.
You’ve got it all wrong, everyone. Walkingdead doesn’t want to rape anyone, he just wants to be raped in peace.
Obviously there are some people who condone rape or else there wouldn’t be any rape.
Fuck politics. Seriously.
Especially with Senators from such notable Southern states as New Hampshire, Idaho, South Dakota, and Wyoming coming out against the amendment…
Honorable suhs and one or two madams, ah stand before y’all not to implah that ah encourage rape, pur say. Rathuh, in these troubled times of Nigra Presidents and Wimmen’s Libertation, ah’ve come to understand that rape is not always a positive act. But ah say, ah say, this amendment must not and shall not pass as long as this Southuhn gentlemen still breathes God’s aiuh. So it is with a heavy hawt but strong Southuhn resolve that as a citizen of Geojuh and these othuh, lessuh United States, I must vote ‘NO’ towards the “no money fo’ rapin’” bill. God bless the Confedera…I mean, America. Hail Satan.
But did she sue the company who made her implants, cause those should always be rape proof.
But in our seriousness…really guys? Your going to vote against this just because Franken BEAT your guy fair and square? fucknuts.
Yes, I have a rape horn, Michael, because you took away my mace.
Yeah, like anyone would want to “R” her.
Surprise sex and sex tourism is not a good combination… even in the middle east.
It’s not that those Republicans condone rape (maybe), it’s the formula:
Al Franken = Satan
Halliburton = God
And as far as the “arbitration” thing goes, Republicans are anti-aribtration when it comes to union issues, so there’s a consistency problem.
But other than that, solid vote.
“Rape, no-bid contracts, shoddy work, and rape.”
“You said ‘rape’ twice.”
“Halliburton likes rape.”
I understand Republicans voting no to democrat bills in order to block them passing bills that will be helpful to them in midterm elections i.e. stimulus, health care, climate change. I get that. But this one was a slam dunk and would obviously pass so what is the political upside in voting against this? It’s a loosing strategy. Republicans are seen as being way more partisan than democrats so why not take one small symbolic step to show a little willingness to comprimise.
Oh wait Haliburton lines the republican party’s pockets that is why….now I remember why…
It’s funny, the more i try to defend myself I end up looking like I was defending rape. I was never trying to do that, however the people on this board are assholes themselves and as much as i wish some of them were raped. It turns out that i’m just relegated to this weeks whipping boy for the purposes of there comedic disdain.
ha ha ha walking dead can’t spell properly he’s stupid and his argument originally sounded like he supported rape… he’s fucking dumb.
no, i’m at work and wrote something quickly… ohhh yea and i’m not all that great with spelling.
Wow, can’t belive there are people on this board that think the 30 people that voted against this amendment condone rape.
La Schmoove, there is NO WAY that they voted for Obama.
/Yay, RaFlaWa!!!
You know how hippie dippy Berkeley linguists are all like, “The English language is alive and fluid, and standard writing conventions are unimportant because the audience will still understand what the writer is attempting to convey.”
walkingdead demonstrates why those linguists are assholes.
I’m trying to understand your point, but your choice to buttrape homophones is making it really hard for me to know why it is I’m even disagreeing with you.
Nope. Keeping rape victims from pursing criminal charges is pretty much an absence of justice.
I suspect that Henry Rollins and the rest of the rapin’ Nazis will be voting Republican again this year.
well vodka that is simply not true… i only hate my shift key and you. and as far as every thing else is concerned this was spun to the argument that all the republicans just wanted free rape and thats just not true. i was never defending rape… i was just trying to explain that the arbitration aspect was kept out of the majority of news story’s that i have read. at not time did i ever stand up for the absence of justice.
Maybe chicks who work for government contractors shouldn’t be looking all sexy around the workplace.
The mental gymnastics required to make someone think partisan politics and sucking up to defense contractors is more important than protecting a woman’s right to work in a rape free environment are mind boggling.
@ Walkingdead
I’m all for arbitration, provided the arbitration agent’s choices are between 1) Castrating the rapists with rusty knives or 2) castrating them with rusty spoons. That’s the kind of choice where you really need the input of a neutral professional.
Al Franken also introduced a funny joke bill, but everyone agreed he had no credibility.
The people who represent us in our National Legislature are no longer voting for our best interests. They are voting against members of the other party. Record scratch, rip, tear, low manifold pressure.
Before this turns into a political pissing contest, I’d just like to say that as a young Republican I plan to one day be quite wealthy and work for a large government-subsidized company, and I, for one, am glad that someone is looking out for my best interests.
walkingdead hates his Shift key. And proper spelling. And simple justice.
no one’s missing that, walkingdead. the counter argument is that taxpayer money shouldn’t go to companies that aren’t governed by us law. arbitration is perfectly acceptable if the issue is a salary dispute, or contractual obligation, but items that are clearly governed by the laws of the U.S., like physical assault, sexual assault, murder, kidnapping, etc, require (in my mind) the universal standard of legal prosecution be provided to the victims.
what ever one is missing is that the people in question who wanted this bill passed had to take there “rape” allegations to arbitration. its not like they had to just be raped an take it. thats all.
Wait…. were ALL 30 votes cast by Republicans?
“It wasn’t a vote against, you know, rape rape.”
Sincerely,
Whoopi
Alas, it looks like http://www.republicansforrape.org has already been pulled. It was awesome while it lasted.
The GOP has long taken a pro-big business, anti-rape victim stance. I’m pretty sure Mitch McConnell got a pro-rape plank included in the last party platform.
