Kristen Wiig, who you likely recognize from every single sketch on “Saturday Night Live,” read some selections of Suzanne Somers’s poetry at Caroline’s as part of Celebrity Autobiography series that helped kick off the New York Comedy Festival. Yes, apparently Suzanne Somers writes poetry. I was unaware. Anyway, it’s pretty easy to get laughs when you read things like this:

Sometimes I wonder if there’s enough love to go around with all the pain and longing. But one thing is for sure: If anyone has any extra love, even a heartbeat, or a touch or two, I wish they wouldn’t waste it on dogs. [Counterpoint. -Ed.]

Anyway, I wanted to post this because I’m a nerdy writer and I love a good reading. I went to one last night and had a blast. Nick Flynn read about his dead mother and going to My Lai with his troubled veteran stepfather, then I read about going to combat with visions of my own death in gruesome detail, then a girl read about confronting her gay father, and a guy read about his father’s death, then a girl read about being pregnant and finding out the fetus was braindead. Total laugh riot, dude. Almost exactly like the Wiig clip.
