The Marine Corps’s ass-kicking birthday continues at Warming Glow with this video about HBO’s “The Pacific” — an epic miniseries that, as I’ve said before (more than once), will be the greatest thing ever televised. No, YOUR expectations are too high!
Anyway, this is just Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg giving us no information that we haven’t already gotten before, but it’s set to moving music, and they talk about Marines, and there’s an old M4 Sherman tank, and God damn it’s days like this that I miss shooting my .50 cal. What an amazing weapon. The way it’s mounted on an M1A1 tank, you can put steel on steel from defilade 1800 meters away. One of the rarest pleasures in life is sending hot steel at unsuspecting enemies of America. It’s one of the few things in life I enjoy more than cats in wigs.

FACT IS –having made BILLIONS upon BILLIONS these past
decades unflinchingly catering to the franchise-slum
denial needs of history’s –MOST– awesomely genocidal
regime –ACROSS the Pacific –in ‘peacetime’ –decades
AFTER WWII —Hollywood’s moral alibi of choice remains
the anachronistic, guilt trippy PC WWII retread –er,
we mean ‘tribute’…
ESP. galling on this, the once again ‘mysteriously overlooked’ 60th Anniversary of the epic, urgently relevant, indeed, STILL unfolding —KOREAN WAR.
SO, STOP buying into the set-up —it’s getting dangerous…
btw, gary goetzman, the exec producer that appears in the video is one of the coolest guys I’ve ever met. Hanks and Spielberg get all the credit, but he’s just as important to making awesomeness possible
If there is one quote i could have tramp stamp’d onto it, it’d be that ufford
“One of the rarest pleasures in life is sending hot steel at unsuspecting enemies of America. It’s one of the few things in life I enjoy more than cats in wigs.”

You just made me so happy. I’m gonna oorah the fuck out of things tomorrow.
Farthammer: have at it. I wish I could use it more in daily conversation without raising eyebrows.
I look forward to Spielberg and Hanks casting another Friends douche in this series. General Gunther would be amusing though.
Matt – Civilian conduct question:
I train BJJ, and the guy who conducts the cardio portion is ex-military. Great guy; insanely conditioned/ripped. He likes to get everyone fired up during drills, and every now and then he’ll yell the oorah thingy, and generally everyone else will yell it too.
Is this cool? He is entitled to it because he served, but what about us normal folk? Can we yell it after him or should we abstain? And should I view redtube or youporn today?
They’re not acting. THEY’RE LIVING!!!! He forgot to say “literally”
You shot a .50 cal weapon at “enemies of America?” Then why is Jeff Dunham still around to make tv for the stupid?
I like shooting things from a great distance, too. But for some reason when YOU do it they call you “marine” and “hero” and “patriot”; when I do it they call me “sniper” and “un-hinged” and “wanted by authorities” and “lunatic.”
Double standards are NOT what this country was built on.
I thought that said Oprah! and assumed the Pacific was a sandwich.
