WELL PLAYED, JIMMY FALLON
11.24.09This is Jimmy Fallon as Neil Young covering the theme to “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” on last night’s “Late Night,” and I’ll be honest: Fallon’s impression is so good that I didn’t even realize it wasn’t Neil Young until they cut to a close-up. It almost makes me kind of mad, because I feel like Fallon was holding out on us when he was on “Saturday Night Live.” He doesn’t even come close to breaking character, and — as reader Wade R. notes – this might be on par with John Belushi as Joe Cocker.
So: nice work, Fallon. Golf clapping from me. You’re still in the hole for Taxi, but you’re moving in the right direction. Another five years of stuff like this and I could probably even forgive Fever Pitch.
(If you don’t like the Hulu player, I’ve got the NBC player below.)

I love Jimmy Fallon and I love his impressions this was spot on and so funny. By the way I think both Taxi and Fever Pitch were extremely funny, especially Taxi. Fallon’s skits on his late night show are pure genius, especillay Real Housewives of Late Night, so he should keep doing what he’s doing and he will continue to be awesome.
It’s a dead-on impression, for sure. But it’s still not funny. Where’s the joke?
“What if Neil Young sang the Fresh Prince song!”
Yeah… what if he did?
Despite being somewhat awkward and, at times, toolish, Fallon has a lot of talent. I’m reasonably pleased with what he’s done on Late Night so far, and he’s starting to hit his stride.
I don’t get it
Ha! I cant remember the last time I kinda tear’d up hearing that song.
Tracy Jordan: “Are you a celebrity?”
Jimmy Fallon: “I have a late night talk show on NBC.”
Tracy Jordan: “No, a CELEBRITY.”
Jimmy Fallon: “I was in a movie with Queen Latifa once.”
Tracy Jordan: “OK.”
And as I laughed, a realized Fallon had begun that long uphill climb. His Neil Young is another big step.
elranito, little froggy, dude, it’s Neil Young.
/point still stands
Neil Diamond doing the Fresh Prince? Timely AND relevant!
I think I’ve changed my mind on Blake Lively, as well. After seeing her with Fallon last night, I still don’t think she’s drop-dead gorgeous, but just seeing how fun and unpretentious she was made me like her. Lucky for her, huh?
Does he take requests?
Because I’d love to see him tackle “WKRP in Cincinnati”.
Huh, Jimmy Fallon isn’t completely useless.
You win this round, universe.
