COMCAST BOUGHT NBC
12.02.09You know, when I started a television blog, my biggest hope was that I’d get the opportunity to ignore programming and talk about huge faceless hegemonic corporations buying out huge faceless struggling corporations. Well, good news for me! Because Comcast has completed a deal to buy a controlling share of NBC Universal. Wow! Thrilling!
Less than a day after GE consolidated ownership of NBC Universal in preparation to spin it off and sell a controlling stake to Comcast, CNBC is reporting that the deal is actually done and will be announced Thursday morning. As rumored from the start, Comcast will now own 51 percent of NBC to GE’s 49 percent, and the new company will fold in Comcast’s various content assets, which means the new NBC will rival Disney in size. That’s a big enchilada, and it should make the future of Comcast initiatives like TV Everywhere extremely interesting. [Engadget]
So how does this affect me? Is Jay Leno fired yet? No? Okay, just let me know when Jay Leno’s fired.

I work for NBC. Just got the News from the states, we been sold to Comcast. Will be official in next 24-48 hours.
As long as Chuck and Michael Scott return unharmed, all will be well. Destroy the rest, but harm one hair on Charles and or Papa Scott’s heads and I’m comin’ Comcast. And you don’t want see this lightning strike.
So I guess in this case GE was the “Biggest Loser”

OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! I hope this means at least 3 more seasons of Heroes
@BabySexCannon…. ironic, as I had to look up the spelling of “Donaghy!”

Now witness the power of this fully purchased and operational network station!!!
That’s the Family Guy Death Star, not the ‘real’ one, right?
I, for one, welcome our new Comcast overlords.
Comcast has stated previously that it’s behind a pay/subscription system for streaming online content (aka Hulu). NewsCorp (aka FOX) has already made waves about this as well. Now that they’re the major partners behind Hulu, expect to start being forced to pay for that content sooner than later.
And BabySexCannon beat me to the Sheinhardt Wig Company joke. Curses!
This is what happens when you give up Scrubs.
dammit, m beat me on the obvious 30 Rock reference because I was busy looking up the correct spelling of Sheinhardt.
so Comcast is a subsidiary of the Sheinhardt Wig Company too now?
what will happen to Jack Donaghy?
NBC better still broadcast a bunch of shows that I don’t watch. ‘Cause if they don’t…(shakes fist…shake harder, boy)
Now maybe Comcast can finally get around to broadcasting Comedy Central in HD. It’s almost 2010, you cheap bastards.
Mmmmm … enchiladas.
