GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINEES, TV EDITION
12.15.09The Golden Globe nominations were released today, which is important because they’re often a bellwether for Oscar picks. Oh, and for whatever reason they also give out awards for film’s popular, slutty sister: TV. While you can check out the movie nominations over at FilmDrunk, I’ve got all the television selections below. The TV show with the most nominations? “Glee.” All those jazz hands really paid off.
Also, because I like sharing my opinion whenever possible, I’ve included a Warming Glow pick for every category. It should be noted that that’s my personal preference, NOT a prediction. I can’t predict these things — I have no way of knowing which network gave the Hollywood Foreign Press Association the largest sack of cash.
Series, Drama
“Big Love,” HBO; “Dexter,” Showtime; “House,” Fox; “Mad Men,” AMC; “True Blood,” HBO.
Warming Glow pick: “Mad Men”

Warming Glow pick: “Modern Family”

Warming Glow pick: Emerson. Dude is CREEPY.

No curb makes the GG a joke.
“into the Storm” was Brendan Gleason as Churchill during WWII. Very meh.
I agree that Katey Sagal should have been nominated for SOA.
I hope John Lithgow gets it for Dexter. He was great going from serial killer to loving father to monster father to resigned to his fate.
Seriously? I HATE Lea Michele. She is annoying as hell.
No love for Rescue Me or Denis Leary here, I guess.
Actor, Musical or Comedy
Nick Offerman as Ron Fucking Swanson. Game, set, match. He has been MILES better than any of the actors listed. Baldwin would be a distant second.
“Community” was robbed.
Entourage is nominated over Curb? Sweet Shiva thats unconscionable dumbfuckery.
No love for Hank?
Ufford not watching Dexter is very apparent in his Best Supporting Actor decision. It’s Lithgow, hands down.
In the future, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association would prefer a nondescript briefcase to the sack with a dollar sign on it.
That Entourage was even nominated is ridiculous. I don’t hate on it nearly as much as anyone else, but it’s not entirely a comedy, not entirely a drama. It’s just this pathetic piece of shit that can’t make up its mind. Why is it in the same category as legitimately good shows?
Courteney Cox, “Cougar Town”
/shoots self
@Vince: I’m as big a Community fan as anyone, but you gotta be kidding if you think Brie deserves an award. Hot ≠ Great acting.
Also, John Lithgow is in Dexter? I really gotta start watching that show.
All right, I’ll refine my comment on miniseries to this:
Who watched THOSE miniseries? C’mon, somebody must’ve caught “Georgia O’Keefe” on Lifetime. Speak up, people.
I guess Generation Kill was more of a maxi-series? Same with John Adams. I don’t know these TV rules.
I do believe WWII in HD was a miniseries good sir.
More of a documentary, I’d say. “Band of Brothers” was 2001. “The Pacific” comes out in 2010. We’re basically looking at a quality miniseries once a decade.
What about Best Supporting Got Her Shit Knocked Out?
Band of Brothers = miniseries
You’d like “Taking Chance” I think. It was a movie, not a miniseries, and it was really good.
Lithgow will win supporting actor.
The person who deserves this is Katey Sagal from “Sons of Anarchy.” Inexcusable snub.
Agreed!
Second snub: Alison Brie of Community.
I do believe WWII in HD was a miniseries good sir.
Steve Carell is not funny or a good actor. He sucks.
I love Jane Lynch. I still can’t watch Glee. That campy musical-theatre smile they all do… ugh, I can’t take it.
