So, here’s an Australian ad for the Toyota Yaris that’s all over the Internet today. Like many ads that get pulled for being too edgy or tasteless or offensive, this was never actually aired on television (from what I can tell), but instead was made for a short film competition called Clever Film Comp, organized in part by Toyota. It won the competition.

The car firm’s first foray into social media in Australia backfired after it invited film-makers to create a new online advertisement for its Yaris model, a small car which is sold mostly to female buyers.

But eyebrows were raised when it emerged that the winning entry featured a innuendo-laden conversation between a man and his daughter’s boyfriend. [Telegraph]

People are calling the ad sexist and even incestuous, and Toyota has responded by pulling the video from the Clever Film Comp website. Me, I don’t know how people maintain the energy to get offended about things every day. Where do they get these bottomless reserves of righteousness? Big deal, it’s a tasteless minute and 15 seconds. It’s not like Toyota was airing this while impressionable teenagers were watching some kind of nature documentary like “Jersey Shore.” It’s just something on the Web. Ignore it.
