‘SIX TO EIGHT BLACK MEN’
12.22.09Things are gonna be a little haphazard around Warming Glow for the next couple of days as I do some last-minute shopping and travel in preparation for the winter solstice festival that Christianity hijacked from the pagans. Today and tomorrow should be only slightly slowed by holiday chores, but I reserve the 24th and 25th for getting drunk and playing with my nieces (although not at the same time).
So to celebrate, here’s one of my favorite under-the-radar pieces of holiday cheer: David Sedaris’s reading of “Six to Eight Black Men,” an essay about how different countries celebrate Christmas (with a focus on Holland). I’m not a die-hard fan of Sedaris, but his work translates well to the spoken word, and I’ve always enjoyed the YouTube interpretation of this reading. If video doesn’t work at your place of employment, you can read the essay here. But I think we all know that reading is for suckers.

What a coincidence. I have reserved the 24th & 25th for getting drunk and playing with your nieces also.
(just kidding…really..don’t hunt me down and kill me)
Have a merry Christmas.
And another reaction to Vince’s comment…

What coincidence, your mom wrote an essay with this same title. It wasn’t about Christmas stockings but it did involve gettin stuffed. OH!
It’s very important for kids to learn early which one of their uncles will forever be referred to as “the drunk uncle”. Define yo’ role.
