CONAN HAS ENTERED ‘F*CK IT’ MODE
01.11.10I try to keep most of the news around here general-interest, if there’s such a thing as a general-interest television blog that enjoys cats and dogs dressed up as humans. But this one’s for my fellow Conan O’Brien fans: I’m ecstatic to report that on Friday night’s excellent show (with guests Michael Cera and Aziz Ansari), Conan was more his old “Late Night” self than any other night I’ve seen since he took over “The Tonight Show.”
In fact, what you see pictured above is Conan doing the “string dance,” one of the unheralded little pieces of his “Late Night” routine that didn’t survive the move to 11:30. He did that on-air on Friday night for the first time since his days in New York — drawing an extra cheer from the audience — and he used that energy to launch into a series of jokes about NBC’s late-night fiasco that included several shots at Jay Leno (videos below). It seems as though the one thing comedy fans are getting from this debacle is what we’ve been missing since the original move: the old Conan.
UPDATE: There’s strong talk of Conan leaving NBC and going to Fox.

Leno can suck it – he’s old news, and no one likes him anymore. Conan appeals to the majority of Americans. NBC is so stupid.
Could vmiting Kermit be next?
It’s ok, Conan will simply return to his roots – managing the greatest boy band of all time. Dudez a Plenti.
Fuck NBC! Jay Leno is a douche, and I hope Conan goes to Fox and whoops Leno’s ass.
@Nick – I specifically remember the first show well. It was so exceedingly brief it was barely recognizable — a nod to his old “Late Night” fans and nothing more.
Regardless, this is the first time it’s come back since then.
I demand the return of Jar Barf!
Even if Conan goes to Fox, NBC still gets to pay off the rest of his $80 million contract. I think a Conan-Fox reunion would be awesome.
Forget Hulu, there’s multiple articles saying he did it on the first show:

etc.
I’m 99% positive Conan did the string dance on his very first Tonight Show, during the extended applause at the beginning. If I was in the States, I would check it out on Hulu…
I heart Conan.
Cera is a fine example of why Hollywood is shit these days.
@Punch – I just listened to that earlier this morning. Great stuff
Patton Oswalt speaks on the situation:

Wait, so you’re saying that Leno will reprise his role on the Tonight Show?
There’s no reason to live!
If anyone wants to read into the string dance too much, Conan didn’t cut the strings in this dance. Although it looks like that may be on the horizon:

The string dance is retarded. His Bush and Larry King impressions are pure gold though.
Conan O’Brien, FTW.
Jay Leno, go fuck yourself.
I can’t imagine what more it will for the return of lesser-known Late Night characters like Moneyshot Lincoln and Fed-Ex Pope.
Now, Pimpbot5000, Masturbating Bear, and more Triump please and thank you!
When will Mike Cera’s operation be complete?
maybe this is what conan needed… a chance to just goof off because he knows he is getting screwed
so I guess this makes Conan a hipster?
I sincerely doubt Michael Cera has a stylist, else he wouldn’t look like Michael Cera.
Mr. Cera’s stylist removes any remaining doubt that Mike plays anyone other than himself.
