Bristol Palin, the teenager who taught the nation about strong family values by having an unplanned pregnancy during a presidential campaign, will appear as herself on an episode of “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” on ABC Family next season.
The network says the 19-year-old will play herself on an episode scheduled to shoot and air this summer. It will deal with the consequences of teen pregnancy.
Well, if Bristol and MTV have taught me anything, the consequences of having a baby as a teenager are that you end up on a television show. Why, being a teenage mom is totally glamorous!
Of course, I’m sure that’s not the REAL message of “Secret Life” and MTV’s “16 and Pregnant.” Fortunately, teenage girls are notoriously detail-oriented and adept at discerning the truth from potentially muddled messages.

And remember, he has a father who would be more than happy to look after him while you are trying to explain why you were against abstinence before you were for it…… before you mother got to you. @crabApple um, do you have some sort of statistical back up for your claim that “Latina and black women pop them out on a far greater frequency than white girls?” I’m not saying it isn’t true, I personally have no idea if its true. Just wondering if you know this to be fact. Even if it is true, I think its dangerous to overlook the fact that underage pregnancy has a lot more to do with being poor than what color your skin is. Just check the underage birth rate in very poor areas that also happen to be very white. All that said, I do take your point that getting pregnant while underage is only a story if the girl is white. I’d never thought of these shows that way, so…kudos to you for opening my eyes. I meant that sincerely – it just that everything on the internet comes out sounding sarcastic.
@CrabApple: Its a delightful catch 22 of networks being so scared shitless over PC issues. If they have even one black or latina on the show they’ll get shit for perpetuating stereotypes, but by excluding them from the show they’re now liable for discrimination.
Good thing the well of poor white trash from bible/rust belt states never runs dry or TV execs might run out of people to exploit for our entertainment.
