I GUESS THIS IS NEWS?
02.09.10Well, this is lame, but people seem to be talking about it: MTV gave its iconic logo its first-ever redesign, dropping the words “Music Television” from the bottom. “About time, right? It stopped having music years ago!” Haha, good one, Jay.
The new look, revealed on-air yesterday, features the original 3-D large “M” with the small, graffiti-style “tv” on the right side. But the new design is expanded, so that photos of MTV talent, including the cast of “Jersey Shore,” “The Buried Life” and “My Life as Liz,” can be seen through it.
And, for the first time in almost 30 years, the logo drops the “music television” tag line altogether.
“We were really thinking about it in terms of having the brand and our talent living in the same space together,” Tina Exarhos, executive vice president of marketing and multiplatform creative projects, [said]. ”If you watch the channel, you’ve seen that it’s definitely going in a new direction,” said Exarhos. Oh yes, I’ve seen the direction the MTV’s been going:
It’s a whole new generation of drunken Guido-punching! New heights: achieved. Sorry, people: reality killed the video star.

@Chalkdog: To paraphrase Jon Hamm from his “Between Two Ferns” appearance, the “M” doesn’t stand for anything anymore.
Dontcha know? Having channel acronyms without any real meaning is all of the rage now. It gives the networks Carte Blanche to put on any type of programming they think will attract viewers, since it no longer contradicts with the original theme of the network. Now TLC can exploit midgets, VH1 can churn out reality shows, and MTV can brainwash our youth, although that’s pretty much what they were doing beforehand.
So what does the “M” stand for now?
Moron?
More shit?
Monkeys make our programming?
M-barassing?
Just curious – I know it’s a brand, but now it’s totally senseless, and doesn’t even stand for anything. This channel gets more embarassingly stupid by the second.
Also, the snookie punch gif doesn’t seem to be working. Make it go.

Second gif needs more punchiness
I got a new logo for MTV right here: http://rlv.zcache.com/piece_of_shit_postcard-p239425300281445487qibm_400.jpg
i’ve also decided to drop my surname: WANG. Turns out I’m not Japanese.
btw this was worth the long page load thnx
The best part of this is that in fifteen years, when the devolution of MTV’s programming means it runs nothing but a show of fart noises and fast-moving pictures of shiny things, the generation that watches it right now will be nostalgic for the good old days when MTV had shows with real people in them.
Mo Charlo said all I wanted to.
He dropped that bitch after that right?

I’ve always wondered what ever happened To Ricki Rachtman but he just emptied my office trash can. So that answers that question.
That is a legit spinning back fist.
Not that I’ve watched MTV since the 90s, but there is a little twinge of nostalgia for when they had videos. This essentially is the final blow of MTV kicking my formative years in the sack.
“If you watch the channel, you’ve seen that it’s definitely going in a new direction…”
Funny, because I *don’t* watch the channel and yet I can still see it’s headed straight into the sewer.
Can’t they get sued for having the word Music in their name at this point? Also- I think after the Jersey Shore renewal they’ve eclipsed Fox as the vegas favorite for first network to televise a snuff film.
Anyone else cringe at seeing the word “talent” so close to the cast of Jersey Shore, The Buried Life, and My Life as Liz?
What is Warren DeMontague from Greg the Bunny doing on the Mtv logo?
Loved it when they went to Vegas
