NBC HAS GREAT ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING
02.04.10Here’s the trailer for the upcoming series “Who Do You Think You Are?,” which NBC describes as “the remarkable true stories of 7 celebrities on journeys to discover their pasts.” It features Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Spike Lee, Susan Sarandon, Lisa Kudrow, Emmitt Smith, and Brooke Shields as they learn the often surprising histories of their roots.
And let me just say what a bold, original programming decision this is. This is absolutely nothing like PBS’s “Faces of America,” in which Henry Louis Gates “turns to the latest tools of genealogy and genetics to explore the family histories of 12 renowned Americans.” Just think of the courage it took for NBC to do the exact same show with different celebrities.
UPDATE: Commenter PaulPogba notes, “Yes and apparently nor is it anything like the BBC show of the same name and description which is into its 5th season.” Um, yeah. That too.

Was I the only one that saw Spike Lee and hoped he was related to some rich white dude. Needless to say I was not disappointed. And does he have a revolver at about 1:47? Do we know the whereabouts of that geneaologist?

The Emmitt Smiff episode will be hilarious. Will he be surprised to find out that none of his ancestors ever learned how to read or write?

Wow, I can’t wait to see narcissistic Hollywood celebrities with the ability to just take weeks off work travel to find out more about their past! Just what I want to watch after a hard day of wasting time reading Warming Glow work!
