SNL: WHAT IS ‘BURN NOTICE’?
02.09.10What with yesterday’s orgy of Super Bowl news, I never got around to saying anything about Ashton Kutcher’s performance on “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend. Which is probably for the best, seeing as Ashton Kutcher hosted “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend. In fact, in what I consider a loving attempt to save me from boredom, my DVR only recorded the last 15 minutes or so of the episode, so I only saw part of a Them Crooked Vultures song and the last sketch.
However, I recognize that there are people who did sit through 90 minutes of wanting to punch Ashton Kutcher (more than the usual urge, I mean), so here are what I suspect are two of the highlights: the clever “What Is ‘Burn Notice’?” game show sketch (above), and Andy Samberg as Rahm Emanuel apologizing for using the word “retard” last week (below). I think I like the “Burn Notice” sketch because I’d never watched a single episode until I started writing a TV blog, and only then because two or three people I trusted insisted that I watch it. As for Samberg as Emanuel, well, what can I say? I’m a sucker for furious swearing and retard jokes.

This skit was funny only because it was a proven laugh getter by Aziz Ansari ib=n his stand up act that asks the very same question.

They should also do a skit named, “is SNL off the air yet”.. I kid you not, there have been several times in the last ten years when I earnestly asked if SNL was still on the air..
I was sure it was gone, considering I never watched and never heard anyone talking about it at all..
But it’s true about Burn Notice.. I remember looking at the pilot years ago and never thinking much about it afterward.. A few years pass and I start to hear friend talking about it( at which point I had completely forgot). And now I’m a big fan.. Probably my favorite show each week..
After Archer, which is on FX.. ( tho I am biased, since I work on the show.)
I watched just for the heck of it. There seemed to be about 4 sketches (all about threesomes, oral sex, or chlamydia) and the a song by them crooked vultures then weekend update started and would not end. By the time the brought on their sixth unfunny weekend update guest i turned it off and went to bed. Honestly it was Seth said a joke and then he had a character come on for 3 minutes of silence then repeat. Ugh.
i think its safe to say more people watch Burn Notice than snl, at least every single one of my friends… and i have 10!
Rahm’s apology FTW! That was brilliant.
I think SNL should do skits asking when’s the last time SNL was funny?
they should’ve just put Them Crooked Vultures on last week, Jon Hamm and TCV together? its like sex but better
I admit it was this blog that convinced me to start watching “Burn Notice” I started by catching a marathon on New Year’s Eve
Them Crooked Vultures kicked ass.
“Burn Notice” is actually damn good. Bruce Campbell, bitches!
The fucking Rahm Emanuel sketch was fucking great.
I just don’t understand why they’d ask that douchebag to host when there are so many funny people right under NBC’s roof.
If Joel McHale doesn’t host this season, I’ll be pissed.
Rahm’s apology should be that he wasn’t slandering retards, he was just trying to get Ashton Kutcher’s attention (for some reason).
He was, but how can you give it the attention it deserves when you’ve got a dude whose claim to fame is sitting on Twitter all day acting like a complete spaz because he thinks people like him for that? I think what I’m trying to say is he should die.
I wish I knew a bar that had stormtrooper bartenders
Hulu wanted me to wait 30 seconds to watch SNL. No thanks.
That bulldog was adorable, though.
Uff, I had never watched Better Off Ted until you started talking about it. Thanks for turning me on to a very funny show that is about to get axed because most of America would rather watch fat asses lose weight or tone deaf shitheads make fools of themselves. Thanks for that. Want to take my new puppy away from me too?
The monologue had a freaking bulldog with sunglasses on a surfboard and he managed to make it unfunny.
I thought the Burn Notice sketch was a good example of why the show has struggled the last few years. Once the premise comes across- that people talk about Burn Notice, it has ambiguous promos, but no one knows what it is, does the sketch get any funnier? The court stenographer sketches from last week was an example of this as well.
I think the best from Saturday’s SNL was the Roman Emperor grape sketch- completely silly but funny nonetheless. Especially Kutcher almost losing his shit when Forte calls him his “teenaged horse-penised boy.”
The Burn Notice skit bugged me, just because it was a blatant attempt at cross-promoting another NBC Universal show. I blame Jack Donaghy.
And, yes, I would love to punch Ashton Kutcher in the face. BRING BACK JON HAMM.
