03.10.10 ROB MCELHENNEY’S ANTI-SMOKING PSA

Most of my long-term memory has been washed away by the ocean of whiskey I’ve imbibed over the last decade, but I mcelhennyactually remember this anti-smoking PSA. And it turns out this sullen teen who was too cool to be enthusiastic about not smoking is none other than Rob McElhenney, who now plays Mac on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” I guess teens who were considered at-risk to start smoking were supposed to identify with Mac’s apathy. “Hey, that apathetic kid doesn’t smoke! Neither should I!”

As far as revelations about 1990s PSAs go, though, this still doesn’t come close to the day I found out that Rachel Leigh Cook was the girl in the This Is Your Brain on Heroin PSA. “Take that, egg! F you, kitchen!” Years passed, and then Freddie Prinze, Jr. made her attractive. Good story.

I like to think the kid he tells to wait up is a young Charlie Day.

Needs more kitten mittens.

I actually remember this too. Apparently we’re swimming in the same ocean of whiskey. It’s a big ocean.

The memories just came into my brain like a tsunami.

I remember watching this as a kid and all I could think of, was that there was not a a word in the english language to describe how I feel about this kid. Years later I would learn that the word I was looking for was “D-bag.” It was that look he gave that guy, who bumped into him followed by the “Hey! Wait up” that really did it for me.

wow, I remember that ad too. And to think, that massive toolbag grew up to be one of my heroes. Maybe there’s hope yet for that fat kid from Two and a Half Men.

I do, too, which is weird becaue when I first started watching IASIP, I kept looking at him and thinking “Was he a child actor?” because he looks so familiar
