The Cartoon Network will remake one of my favorite cartoons from the 1980s, “Thundercats.” Warner Brothers animation will team with a Japanese studio to give the new series slated for 2011) an anime style. In case you’re not familiar the show or my weird and illicit sexual attraction to Cheetara, here’s a plot summary from Wikipedia:

ThunderCats follows the adventures of the eponymous team of heroes, cat-like humanoid aliens from the planet of Thundera. The series pilot begins with the dying Thundera meeting its end, forcing the ThunderCats (a sort of Thunderean nobility) to flee their homeworld. The fleet is attacked by the Thundereans’s enemies, the Mutants of Plun-Darr, who destroy all the starships in the “ThunderFleet,” but spare the flagship hoping to capture the legendary mystic Sword of Omens they believe is onboard.

The Thundercats crash-land on Third Earth, and that’s where the battle continues. Obviously.

Warner Brothers says that in the new ThunderCats, characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others “will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.” [IGN]

As much as I want to maintain my healthy disdain for remakes, I can’t say no to an anime version of Cheetara. I also recommend that the updated version of Third Earth be stocked with pervy tentacles and tree branches. Hey, don’t blame me, the Japanese thought of it first.
