Beloved “Golden Girls” actress Rue McClanahan died last night in her sleep, the victim of a massive stroke. She was 76.

Her first job was off Broadway, in 1957, and she finally hit Broadway in 1969. TV work came from soap operas, until she made it on CBS’s Maude, starring Beatrice Arthur, starting in 1972. She played Maude’s best friend Vivian.

But it was Golden Girls that put her on the map and led to fame, fortune – and several husbands. In all, she had six, including actor Morrow Wilson, whom she wed in 1997 and who survives her, as does a son, Mark Bish, from her first marriage. [People]

Just as I warned before Gary Coleman died, summer is a dangerous season for celebrities, and McClanahan is the third famous entertainer to die in the six days since the Memorial Day weekend began. Also, I have to note that Estelle Getty died in the summer of 2008, followed by Bea Arthur last summer. That makes Betty White the sole surviving Golden Girl. I don’t mean to take away from the sad event of a person’s death, but I’m just sayin’, IF your office has a death pool… you know what to do.

Rest in peace, Blanche Devereaux. You made being a slutty old woman cool back when Kim Cattrall was still in her twenties.
