It’s Always Sunny in South Africa
06.14.10Once again, I’ve found a thin thread linking television and the World Cup, as these Team USA soccer fans found inspiration from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s” Green Man. This photo is one of the wide selection of images I found (and made in Photoshop) for With Leather’s recap of the draw against England, so go check it out for all the jingoistic taunting of the tea-drinkin’ monarchy. It’s a great way to start the week.
Speaking of starting the week, commenters are welcome to use this thread for discussion of anything on TV over the weekend — there’s certainly plenty to talk about, from the gripping “Breaking Bad” finale to the tit-fueled “True Blood” premiere, as well as the rest of the World Cup games. As I type this, Netherlands-Denmark is on, and Rafael van der Vaart is playing well for the Orange. Van der Vaart once intentionally got suspended so he could spend time with his wife Sylvie. He’s a smart man.

@Jimmy: Yes.
Last night was my first time watching an episode of True Blood from start to finish, and I have to say I was really impressed. That show takes all the things about vampires that Twilight makes truly, truly gay and makes them badass.
Oh, a show where vampires have to bury themselves during the day so that they can’t be exposed to sunlight, as opposed to turning into fucking diamonds anytime they’re in sunlight? And they use actual wolves for the werewolves instead of CGI? Yeah, I’ll take that.
I second the series finale of Six Feet Under as best wrap-up ever.
How about Treme? I think the Mardi Gras one and last night’s episode are my favorite of the series, thus far. Show’s really coming into its own.
Only tangentially related: just saw the finale of The Wire last night, and that was the best finale I’ve ever seen(save for the final 10 mins of Six Feet Under). Yeah, I’m a few years late, but all 90 minutes of that finale were golden.
Am I the only one who sees USMNT and thinks US Mutant Ninja Turtles?
Ah, well played, UU. Perhaps we can make this a movement.
We have been perfectly happy with “Fucking Overlords of Death” and were chanting “FOoD, FOoD” at our bar in Boston
I wish that Jesse Pinkman would show up on the World Cup’s doorstep and get rid of this shit for good.
/Better call Saul talking about shooting at kids was hilarious
Matt, I agree. See third comment.

Great minds….
I was reminded how truly terrible the movie Pearl Harbor is. And yet, I couldn’t change the channel. I was pleased to see that Burn Notice has added new man candy to the cast. He’s purty.
Congratulations on your 1-1 draw, i guess. Danken Sie Gott for ze Germans, because this World Cup has been pretty turgid so far.
“Birds of War” would be a good nickname for the USMNT.
Since we are talking about Sunday shows here, am I the only one watching Top Shot on History Channel? It has guns and lots of them so it kicks ass.
Last 10 minutes of BB had me feeling genuine anxiety, not much on tv elicits that but as Walt stepped out and Gus’ assistant was there to nab him, it made me sick, then the head fake for a split second in thinking a begging pathetic Walt would sellout Jesse, shame on me. Although where does Heisenberg go from here, he can’t win this war. Caught up on some dvr, friday’s Letterman, I watch the first 15 minutes still, was great. He takes the first 5 minutes after the first commercial break and just rants, saves money and time on scripted bits, and he ripped into TLC and the abundance of Cake based reality shows, it was great. Videos not up yet on the Lateshow site
I’m happy to have True Blood back on my TV. It’s so bad that it bypasses bad and goes right back to awesome.
I also made the mistake of watching Extreme Poodles, thinking it’d be hilarious. But, y’all, it was complete crazypants. Twilight Moms levels of crazy.
Breaking Bad = Badass
Hopefully we’ll see some US fans dressed up as the Birds of War.
