‘Mad Men’ Season 4 Poster
06.21.10The poster for the fourth season of AMC’s “Mad Men” has been released, and wouldn’t you know it? Don Draper is in an office. He’s missing some furniture, but at least the office is drier than it was last year.
Anyway, I never really see the point to spending too much time writing about a poster for a TV show; it always feels too much like an art history paper, and the inferences people make are either retarded or obvious. For more on this subject, let’s go to Hollywood’s retarded Captain Obvious, Michael Ausiello:
The message being conveyed by Mad Men‘s season 4 key art is clear: Don Draper is starting over…
What do you think of the poster? Did anyone else pick up on the exhibitionist subtext?
Wait, what? Exhibitionist? Either Ausiello doesn’t know what exhibitionist means (entirely possible), or he has inferred that Don Draper is facing the window with his penis hanging out of his trousers. I’m sorry, but I gotta chalk that one up to wishful thinking. By a f*cking moron.

I think it’s supposed to express the duality of man. Don Madmen is in a black suit, and everything else is a light shade. Devil in a black dress. The oeuvre of minimalist post-baroque subtext narrative postmodern nuances of hyper-existentialism. Nuances.
The exhibitionist part isn’t Draper, but what he is looking at across the street. Some hot secretary is flashing her tits at Don hoping for a quick finger bang at lunch.
And like, did anyone else pick up on how he’s facing away from the front of the phone, because that, like, totally expresses his fear of mermaids.
And prison! Those bars are totally a prison! Existential malaise!
We knew he was starting over last fucking season once his wife started fucking Bobby Flay, the Brits were a bunch of fags, and his daughter was still a fat shit.
I enjoy your disdain for Michael Ausiello almost as much as I enjoy Mad Men.
The cat represents a really fucking fat cat. And the ennui of suburban life. But mostly a fat fucking cat.
This show makes me want to wear a suit all the time.
I want to work out in a suit
Fish in a suit
Ice rode truck in a suit
Be a member of a firing squad in a suit
etc
Only his right hand and right foot are visible, which clearly indicates Don Draper is meant to represent 1960s Goldwater conservatism, whose hostility to the Civil Rights Act is embodied by the all-white world around him. The telephone is a wake up call from the racial zeitgeist.
Or something.
