In a testament to how I’m always right about what’s good, Daniel Tosh’s “Tosh.0″ is garnering bigger ratings than Comedy Central’s two late-night giants, “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report.” In the last six weeks, Tosh’s summer season has gotten more viewers than any Comedy Central show in that time slot since “Chappelle’s Show” in 2004.
“It’s a show that came in under the radar and it’s a truly word-of-mouth kind of show,” said Kent Alterman, head of original programing at Comedy Central. “He hasn’t been written about that much [Ed. Note: Hey, f*ck you, pal]. There’s really just one factor that stands out — the show is really funny.”
“Tosh” is averaging 2.2 million viewers this season vs. 2 million for “The Daily Show” and 1.4 million for “Colbert Report.” Overall, it is the third most-popular show on the network (behind “South Park” and “Futurama”). [THR]
Of course, Tosh airs in primetime, not late night, and his show is weekly compared to the four nights a week Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are on the air. And that raises the question: could “Tosh.0″ air Mondays through Thursdays with the big dogs? I don’t know; it’s pretty hard to find people who can find funny Web clips and write offensive jokes about them every day. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to catch up on my tentacle rape hentai videos.

I don’t mind Tosh, as long as he doesn’t try to out do the clip. He is just the background. Just don’t be too annoying and I will tolerate you.
I’m confused by the Stewart hate. TBAU says that Stewarts show doesn’t make him a relevant comic, but neither does Toshs’. It isn’t like they are doing stand up.
And your sister likes to watch.
Your mother likes this tool.
Touched by an Uncle is a fucking tool. There will be no follow-up to this. I just think he should know.
DPD, Jon Stewart is essentially a talking head. He’s not funny. The man does 3 things: a brooklyn accent, a jew accent, and a high pitched accent. That’s the extent of his comedic capabilities. I do admit that the man is good at interviews, but that doesn’t make him comedically relevant.
Daniel Tosh is Dane Cook 2.0, now with more joke thievery.
Well, I like Tosh. He’s pretty edgy and his show is better than Web Soup. I actually like Chris Hardwick too, but he’s not as good of a host.
But this isn’t so much news only because The Daily Show and Colbert cater to a select audience, whereas Tosh has a little more accessibility.
My Dad hates him, but he also doesn’t like Futurama. He does like South Park, TDS and Colbert though.
What’s with all the hate for Jon Stewart?
Tosh is fucking corny. Oh shit, a ripoff of The Soup with jokes about how Justin Bieber’s music is gay! Groundbreaking stuff.
Tosh.0 is pretty funny. Comparing his show to political satire is pretty irrelevant and it doesn’t require too many cheap, overused gimmicks.
I think his stand up stuff is pretty great, but this show is an obvious rip-off of “Talk Soup”/”The Soup”. Not nearly as funny, and more crass. Some of it’s funny, but it really seems like he’s trying too hard. He definitely has that Dane Cook vibe. Sorry, but it’s true.
Tosh.0 is extremely meh. MEH, I SAY!
Hey, I made that graphic in MS Paint! But as usual, photo-shopping a cat into the mix made it 100x better; just like with everything in life.
Taco, if the Daily Show was so bunk and not successful with Kilborn, then why did they decide to bring in Stewart? Why not create another show? Maybe you can elaborate.
why ratings this high? Is there nothing else on at this hour?
I think Jon Stewart probably got more credit for The Daily Show’s success than Kilborn because of the definition of the word “success.”
Tosh.0 going daily would be like The Soup going daily. Not good.
I can see how this is news, but haven’t the Daily Show and Colbert report been on hiatus for the past couple of weeks due to holiday? Therefore they’ve been running a fair amount of re-runs. Which, in turn, is pretty worthless to watch, right? So, shouldn’t new episodes beat out old ones?
I’m not defending Stewart, he’s not funny and that guy got way too much credit for the Daily Show’s success (whereas Kilborn got none). But there seems to be too many holes with this story.
I actually discussed this with my roommate last night before I even saw this news. He wanted Tosh daily; I said that time-consuming stuff like Web Redemptions are essential to keeping it from being a generic clip show. I’d rather have something terrific once a week than something mediocre every night.
The same thing happened to TV Total in Germany, which this show is pretty much based on. Unfortunately, going daily totally changed the show and made it totally generic and boring.
Sounds like Comedy Central needs to promise to let Tosh host the Daily Show in 2014, only to dick him over three months later and let Jon Stewart host again.
So it’s the second most popular show on the channel right now?
Tosh is an actual comic.
Stewart is an actual douchebag.
This is like the Worthington’s Law of ratings. More ratings = Better Than. So sit down, Jon Stewart you schmuck.
Enrico isnt it a little early to be trolling so hard?
I’m shocked that a shitty show like Futurama does better than Tosh. He should be embarrassed.
@Patty, I’ll never forgive them for the death of “Dog Bites Man”
Oh, thank god. I can’t handle another Comedy Central show I love going under.
But I’ve yet to forgive them for the death of Reno 911.
Let’s just hope our Miami boy does right by us and keeps it real.
/chest bumps total stranger wearing hoodie
This means “2.5 Men” is a better show than Tosh, Stewart, and Colbert combined.
Green screen technology can do wonderful things.
