Crista Flanagan, the actress who plays switchboard operator Lois Sadler on “Mad Men,” was previously most famous for shredding a British dude’s foot with a lawnmower on the AMC show. That small moment will soon give way to eternal Internet fame when we look inside the August edition of Playboy, which will feature Flanagan in a ’60s-themed spread.

Flanagan appears on two covers of the August issue of Playboy that were modeled after shots from the ’60s and inside in an eight-page layout that keeps the “Mad Men” theme. The folks at Playboy also reproduced classic ads from the period, too.

“I have to say, just for myself to go to a job and feel pretty, that was kind of cool,” says Flanagan… “I really did feel like I was re-creating something and that I was bringing to life these women who already posed for Playboy in the ’60s,” she says. “If I tell a friend I did this, they think I’m completely naked. … This was not Crista filling your wish list out. This was trying to capture an era.” [NYDN]

Hmmm. Well, Crista’s no Alison Brie or January Jones or Christina Hendricks, but I certainly respect her willingness to get naked. It’s a noble decision, and I can only hope those other three follow Crista’s brave example. She’s clearly a born leader.
