This is the trailer for “An Idiot Abroad,” a Sky 1 docu-series beginning in September that stars Karl Pilkington, best known as the slow-witted foil on “The Ricky Gervais Show.” As the YouTube description puts it:

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant have thrown down the gauntlet to send Karl Pilkington around the globe to force him out of his comfort zone. Stephen wants the experience to broaden Karl’s mind and change his outlook on the world. Ricky wants Karl to hate every minute of it for his own amusement.

I know a lot of smart and funny people who are excited for this because they adore the podcasts that became “The Ricky Gervais Show,” but it’s never really scratched my itch. Karl says something dumb, Ricky cackles maniacally, and then I spend the rest of the time wading through British accents. I’d rather just listen to the season’s hottest comedy CD, Now That’s What I Call Fart Noises 12.
