Some of Hollywood’s most powerful names are uniting to bring Stephen King’s epic series The Dark Tower to the large and small screen: the seven novels will become a film trilogy and a TV series powered by Universal Pictures and NBC Universal.
Ron Howard will direct the first film and the first season of television, which will be written by Akiva Goldsman. Goldsman will produce the film through his Weed Road Pictures with Howard and Grazer for Imagine Entertainment. Howard, Grazer and Goldsman will executive produce the television series for Universal Media Studios…
“The Dark Tower” is Stephen King’s opus of seven bestselling novels with, to date, more than 30 million copies sold in 40 countries. The novels incorporate themes from multiple genres including fantasy, science fiction, horror and adventure. After the series was completed, a prequel of comic books based on one of the characters was also published. [SuperHeroHype]
I nominate Nic Cage to play The Gunslinger. He already has the trench coat and everything.

I’m pretty sure that’s not even from the set of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. He just wore that to the book fair last weekend.

Gotta add my tardy voice to those who felt this once awesome series totally fell flat towards the end. Oh and yeah there is no way these adaptations are going to be any good.
I’m torn on whether they should adpat the books in the narrative’s chronology, or in the order the books came out.
The hook of the “Man in Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed.” Is probably the way to go, but I want the Fall of Gilead to be covered in great detail, so a flashback or series of flashbacks might not do it justice
Who gives a shit about the last few books? Assuming they get the first four right (a big if, and will take years even if it’s good), the Hollywood adapters can change the worst parts of it
I hope Opie is the uncredited narrator.
does this mean ron howards fugly ass brother is Eddie Dean?
Nice JD!
In all honesty, there’s pretty much no way this is gonna be good right?
Somewhere in a first-floor office, the guild of legless minority actresses is celebrating…
Christop Waltz for Roland or GTFO!
Wow! This SOUNDS amazing!!! Whether it happens or not…we will see. If it DOES get made…will it be worth watching?
I’m with Josh and Herc Rock… So pissed I slugged through those seven books for such a craptastic non-ending.
Somewhere along the line Stephen King realized that writing a good ending was tough, said “fuck it” and hasn’t written a single one since.
Read the first book when I was 12 and the last book in my 30′s, so I gotta say I am somewhat excited about it being brought to a broader audience, but also a bit worried that it will end up more like Sleepwalkers and less like The Shining
It didn’t occur to me until The Waste Lands how utterly retarded this series is. I think it was the scene where the characters were attacked by a 100-foot bear with a satellite dish on top of his head.
Agreed, Josh. I wanted to smash King’s mongoloid face in.
I hope Ron Howard inserts himself into a central role in the movie version.
As long as they ignore what might be the worst series ending in literary history, I’m all for it. The last half of that last book almost made me regret having ever started the series.
I’d give Chino’s left nut to make this happen.
I don’t really care about this story but I wanted to give props to Matt for his photoshopping Snooki into the banner pic.
This is my favorite book series, and I just started rereading them last week. The movies I understand but a TV series? uuuuh that’s super dangerous. If they fuck this up I may have to cut-a-bitch… and I’m super cereal you guys.
I agree with you, Zack. First few books were awesome, but Mr. King writing himself into the story annoyed me. However, I did like the last book.
Clint has to be The Gunslinger. Clint Howard.
Eeegahhhads! Not Nic Cage, that dude can’t act himself out of a paper bag. Jon Hamm would do nicely though..
If Ron Howard’s involved, expect at least one talking pie.
I really enjoyed the Gunslinger novels, up until The Waste Lands. I guess Wizard and Glass was okay, but after that it just fell off a cliff.
