I Want This To Be Real
11.12.10Last night, “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” paid off on a gag they set up earlier in the season by showing us the gang’s unbelievably low-budget version of Lethal Weapon 5. Without hyperbole, I would describe it as one of the most amazing films in the history of cameras. A few highlights:
- At the outset, Mac is playing Riggs and Dennis is playing Murtaugh. Inexplicably, halfway through the movie, they switch roles.
When they do, Mac portrays Murtaugh in blackface and Dennis does the most fantastic Australian accent ever heard.- Frank plays the villain, a shark-obsessed somebody or other. He has a sensual love scene that turns a little too sensual. If you ever wondered what Danny Devito’s O-face looked like (and really, who hasn’t?), look no further.
- Guns fired into the air during a storm.
- Charlie playing multiple characters, often in luxurious wigs.
- Hood slides.
I can’t stress enough to you how badly I want this to be a real, full-length feature film. People have crapped on “Sunny” this year for not being as strong as seasons past, but if you didn’t like last night’s episode, we can’t be friends.

Best episode of the season- Charlie’s mentoring of the Jugalo kid was hilarious as well.
Fake Lethal Weapon 5 > Real Lethal Weapons 1-4…. COMBINED
What was the gag from earlier in the season that set this up? I plan on watching this as soon as this horrible work day ends
@jrk They just briefly mention in i think the episode before this that they made a lethal weapon 5 movie.
Is it wrong that I laughed like a maniac when Dennis slipped into his “black voice”? I don’t feel bad about it, I’m just curious.
Reminds me of the part in Wet Hot American Summer when Ken Marino is riding the motorcycle back to camp after “saving” the kids from the waterfall. He gets there, camera moves left to Garofalo, moves back right to Ken, but it’s not him. Back to G, back to him, and its him again.
I sent this in as a tip earlier, but Glenn Howerton announced this on his Twitter: “We’re working on a full length ‘Director’s Cut’ of Lethal Weapon 5. It’ll be on the S.6 DVD. Multiple deleted & extended scenes.”
@ The Doctor – Sadly, I don’t have access to the tip line. (Note: “The Tip Line” would be a great name for your junk, fellas.) But that is tremendous news.
I was dying when Frank thought that James Earl Jones was doing blackface because Darth Vader was a white guy.
I enjoyed it but last week’s was all out brilliant. This week had too much of Dee being a bitch.
Good to see the show getting back to it’s best.
Another thing: Frank using oil on that girl’s feet matches with DeVito’s offscreen obsession with feet.
After the first 3 episodes, Sunny has been killing every week.
@Dan
“She’s not gonna say no. She would never say no…because of the implication”
This was excellent, I love when they do the hood slide and it’s an obvious stunt man. But I still think this is only 2nd best this season behind the Halloween party where Dee was an Ostrich…
Outstanding news about the Director’s Cut.
Haters can hate all they want, but this season is shaping up to be one of their best.
This season turned around big time after the “Who got Sweet Dee pregnant?” Halloween episode. That ep was the best of the season, and probably top 10 all-time.
I don’t know if I’m complimenting Glenn Howerton’s acting or insulting Danny Glover’s, but Dennis’ impression of Murtaugh was actually kinda spot on. It was eerie.
I saw this episode, and yeah, it’s great to hear a director’s cut is in the works. Waaaaay better than Lethal Weapon 4.
