I read a preview that said you would have to watch the finale multiple times because it would play different once “you know” *waves fingers spookily*. I wish I hadn’t because it had me looking for hints rather than just sitting back and letting it happen.
So even though I kinda had an idea how it would play out, the episode still surprised and thrilled me several times. That and the way Sutter built up the tension for the first 70 minutes was almost unbearable.
Watching this episode was like watching someone painstakingly line up thousands of dominoes, until finally gently knocking over the last one, and when the swirl of noise and motion is done and the last domino has fallen, you realize they spell out FUCK YEAH.

That was one of the greatest episodes in all of television history. This show definitely deserves a little more credit around the award circuits. It seems some people are starting to grow brains with the success of shows like Dexter and Breaking Bad, but I mean come on. Give Kurt Sutter his due.

12.01.10 at 8:23 pm
OrangeJuliusPage
@dave,
I’m guessing they start next season in prison and probably spend the first 3-4 episodes largely in there until their parole. At the same time, it will allow the development of the following story arcs:
-Tara’s relationship with Gemma after reading John Teller’s letter
-Developing Kozik, since he looks to be the de facto head of SAMCRO while they are away, despite the vote that they took where Tig blackballed him.
-The politics inside the jail since their truce with Alvarez may be uneasy with most SAMCRO leadership locked up.
-More jail politics involving setting up new connects for firearms, since the Russians are rightly pissed.

Otto Man
1. You don’t just kill a federal agent and walk away from it.
That’s why Chibs painted the IRA tag on the back window of the car, and why Unser said the Irish were waiting ahead to kill Jimmy — they get the blame.
2. You don’t just rip the Russian Mob out of $2M and walk away from it.
True, but that either sets up a new set of bad guys for season four or can be resolved with a late payment now that they no longer have to rush.
3. You don’t just murder Jax’s dad and walk away from it (Tara won’t let that happen).
Again, that’s not a loose end. That’s a set-up for the next season, and beyond.
Anyway, great fucking episode. My wife just started watching, so I may have to fill the void until the fourth season by rewatching the first two. Hell, it worked for “The Wire.”

Holy fuck. That was awesome. Had to ignore this post today so I could watch on DVR, but man did that make some of the slow moments this season ultimately worthwhile. I can’t think of a much better setup for season 4 than SOA versus a prison gang (Aryans?) to start the season, and SOA versus the Russian mob to end it.
12.01.10 at 11:27 pm
miamidiesel
@OrangeJuliusPage: the Sons don’t need a new connect for firearms, by knocking off Jimmy they just got a real strong connect with the IRA Kings. The problem is they’ve probably lost a big customer in the Russian, but I’m sure finding a market for their firearms will be easy.
The Russians have contacts in prison (that is, after all, how the Sons set up the exchange for Jimmy), so it follows that the Russians will make life hell for the Sons while they’re locked up. There’s probably also some of Zobelle’s cronies kicking around there, and I suspect Zobelle will resurface and is probably involved in Hale’s shady real estate dealings. You’ve got to figure Hale and the sheriffs taking over Charming PD is also going to present some new obstacles. I’m really curious to see what Jax wrote to Tara in the 2nd letter, and how she reacts now that she’s found Maureen’s old letters. My prediction for the longer, multi-season narrative arc is that Sutter had the whole storyline with Gemma’s father this season (which showed how important family and her father were to Gemma) to heighten the tension when Jax finds out that Gemma and Clay killed his father (and he’ll obviously find out — Gemma’s whole “built on lies” speech in the jail cell foreshadowed that). I won’t complain if Maureen and Trinity (especially Trinity) make more appearances next season…
12.02.10 at 12:18 am

@dave @orange
My money is on the first episode being the day they get out of jail. The show needs to move forward in time, after having spend episodes on single days this season. I think they’ll probably have an cold open montage showing what happened while they were locked up, and then hit the ground running. The biggest complaint of this last season has been the pacing, and I’m sure Sutter will react to that and launch next season with a bang.

I could be wrong, but I believe Thomas is Gemma’s oldest son who died from the heart problem that runs in the family.

What keyed it for me that the club knew about the deal is when they were coming down the mountain and the ATF guys waved everybody through except the van.
Also, in hindsight when I knew he was helping them wack Stahl when Clay gave Unser a heartfelt “Thanks for doing this for the club, we won’t forget it.”
I wouldn’t mind seeing Unser go out with a bang and have the Sons patch him up just before he bites it. It would get dusty in the house watching that scene.

Now i didn’t read all of the above comments, but what i got from most of it, a lot of you guys cant wait for the forth season. Personally i don’t think there will be a 4th, if you think about it, Jimmy, and Stahl have both been the through out enemies of the club, and they both just got owned epically. @ Eeeee, you’re probably not reading this anymore, but anyways: there were two “deal” files that mattered. Stahl walked away with Jax’s statement identifying IRA leaders; she handed the club’s lawyer the (ostensibly unconnected) statement from her exonerating Gemma and reducing the club’s charges before she left the garage. What you saw getting recovered from Stahl and ripped up after she and Jimmy were killed was the file implicating the IRA; they still have the file getting their people off, which apparently was the plan all along.

SOA is definetly one of the best shows ever made! I really love all three seasons, all of them were just great! Now Im looking forward to Season 4! I guess a war between SOA and the Russian Mafia will start. I dont think Victor Putlova is going to let them walk away, after betraying him so bad. And the Russian Mafia is a dangerous enemy! If they make it right, the fourth season can end in a epic battle between them. A MC vs a Mafia, thats something I never saw on TV!

@dave @orange
“This is what she felt.”
4. Who the fuck is Thomas (in the letter Tara was reading)?
I could be wrong, but I believe Thomas is Gemma’s oldest son who died from the heart problem that runs in the family.
But it’s cool not to actually watch the show and then critique it’s “failures”. It’s actually easier that way.
FIRST OFF, SOA SUCKED SO MUCH BALLS THIS SEASON IT WAS LIKE BEING AT OTTA MANS SISTERS HOUSE. CHARACTERS WERE TERRIBLE, IRELAND WAS RIDICULOUS, OPIE WAS RETARDED, IT’S LIKE IT WAS SCRIPTED BY A HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA CLUB. SO PREDICTABLE AND VOLATILE, I COULD BARELY WATCH.
Best season finale I’ve seen in years. Gonna be hard to follow that. Gave myself a high five. Five on one. A high six!
Did anyone notice that on the deal that Jax signed with Stahl he signed his real name, Charlie Hunnam? So technically the deal wasn’t valid to begin with– BRAAAAAAAAAAAAHM.
I loved this episode…the last 20 min was better than anything on tv now
anyway sutter talked a little about what might go down in season 4 [www.eonline.com]
People who type in all caps kind kindly excuse themselves the fuck away from the conversation. EPIC. FINALE.
EPIC finale… I didn’t see the twist coming, I was all ready for S4 to be Jax vs the rest of the Sons.. and then there was the line “Did you get the deal”.. my girlfriend turned to me and said, “wait, did the club KNOW about Jax’s deal?”
and a second before the laughter in the police van started, i realized what Sutter had done. Brilliant, diabolical bastard!
and Stopher must be pretty hungry.. god bless these commenters for recognizing the troll and refusing to feed it
What keyed it for me that the club knew about the deal is when they were coming down the mountain and the ATF guys waved everybody through except the van.
Honestly i would love to see a 4th season, but the way this season ended i would be happy with the result being the final.
Unless i haven’t done very good research and 4th season’s been announced already, if so please tell me, because that would be awesome.
nvm my last post, just found out 4th season in 2012, freakin suuuweeeeeeeet!!!
Season 4 will be 14 months from now feb 2012. Also didnt they rip up the deal in the school bus killing Jimmy & stahl scene?
Wait, February 2012? The fuck?
@ Eeeee, you’re probably not reading this anymore, but anyways: there were two “deal” files that mattered. Stahl walked away with Jax’s statement identifying IRA leaders; she handed the club’s lawyer the (ostensibly unconnected) statement from her exonerating Gemma and reducing the club’s charges before she left the garage. What you saw getting recovered from Stahl and ripped up after she and Jimmy were killed was the file implicating the IRA; they still have the file getting their people off, which apparently was the plan all along.
essequemodeia
Anybody else wanna bang the fuck out of Stahl?

SOA is definetly one of the best shows ever made! I really love all three seasons, all of them were just great! Now Im looking forward to Season 4! I guess a war between SOA and the Russian Mafia will start. I dont think Victor Putlova is going to let them walk away, after betraying him so bad. And the Russian Mafia is a dangerous enemy! If they make it right, the fourth season can end in a epic battle between them. A MC vs a Mafia, thats something I never saw on TV!
I wish we could ‘LIKE’ some of these comments. haha
So, I’m wayyyyyyy behind, but the season finale may have been the greatest episode of television I’ve ever watched.
And I have to say this… Unser has always been my favorite character. If (and when) he dies, he doesn’t get buried fully patched into SoA, I will abandon this show. I almost lost it in the scene with him and Stahl… the real Sons will always be Baddasses, but that scene unbelievably got to me.
