#2. Bill Henrickson from Big Love

Game over, man.

According to Wikipedia, Bill Paxton is the only actor to have been killed by an Alien (Aliens), a Predator (Predator 2), and a Terminator (The Terminator). That’s quite a trilogy of murder, but you get the sense that his three wives on “Big Love” –  Barb, Nicki, and Margene — would do much worse to him if given the chance, considering how much of a dick his character is. It seems like every sentence he says ends with “…for my family!” And yet, he’s more focused on slot machines and other non-Mormon activities, like becoming a state senator of Utah (which, let’s face it, anyone can probably do), than actually looking after his three wives, eight children, and one Don. The least likable leading man on television? By a Mormon mile.

#1. Lt. Maria LaGuerta from Dexter

Think about how good “Dexter” could be if the writers got rid of every character but Dexter and Deb. Unless Michael C. Hall and/or Jennifer Carpenter are on the screen, the show goes from being excellent to just another boring procedural—with no character worse than LaGuerta, who has somehow become even irritating this season. It’s bad enough having the pointless LaGuerta/Angel plot line, which NO ONE cares about, but she also recently threw Deb under the proverbial bus for something that was her fault. I have a feeling that the “Dexter” writers think we’re all idiots, and need constant exposition (Harry) and useless characters (LaGuerta and Harry, again) to keep us tuning in. I think I speak for all fans of the show when I say: Can Dexter please kill LaGuerta, like brother Brian did in “Darkly Dreaming Dexter? She’s worse than that drunk driver he had no problem getting rid of in season one. So, to recap: Lt. LaGuerta is worse than a drunk driver.

To prove that I’m not a total assh*le, I approached this piece expecting to find a terrible character on every current great show, but there are a few that every character both serves a purpose and is interesting to watch every week, including “Mad Men” (I think Betty’s fine, thank you very much, in both senses of the meaning), “Community,” “Modern Family,” and, especially, “Breaking Bad.”

Josh Kurp has finally started watching “Louie,” and yeah, it’s pretty good.
