Report: Paula Deen Has Diabetes
04.29.11Any story that comes from the National Enquirer automatically gets an asterisk, but this one is too fun to pass up: Paula Deen, Food Network’s symbol of American dietary excess, supposedly has Type 2 diabetes, a secret she’s hidden from fans while touting her butter- and sugar-laden recipes.
According to the National Enquirer, friends of the 64-year-old said she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes several years ago, yet continues to tout exactly the type of butter or sugar rich high-fat recipes that bring on diabetes.
She is said to be under doctor’s orders to steer clear of the foods…
The source said: ‘At first she resisted doctor’s orders to drastically change her diet, but eventually she realised that if she didn’t it would put her into an early grave.’ [Daily Mail]
Aw, I wouldn’t want Paula Deen to go to her grave early due to diabetes. But I think there might be some entertainment value if she lost a hand to the disease. She could get a prosthetic attachment with different devices, like an egg whisk and a butter knife. We could rebuild her. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world’s first bionic chef. Paula Deen will be that chef. Fatter than she was before. Fatter… hungrier… butter.

I hate this woman.
In a related story, Bill Cosby shouldn’t be eating those Italian hoagies because NO!
Livebetes
In related news, The Pope is Catholic.
She brought it on herself. I have diabetes, got it when I was 13. Was healthy, didn’t eat like a pig, and yet still got it.
No sympathy from me. Instead of using herself as an example of how to prevent diabetes, she pretends it doesn’t apply to her.
Breaking News: Fucking duh.
In related news, rain is actually wet.
“I think there might be some entertainment value if she lost a hand to the disease…” Wow~ I can’t believe you actually said that. Classy, Matt. What’s it feel like to have all the compassion of a butter dish?
@Shannon – You say Matt has no compassion? Paula Deen turns down requests from dying kids to spend a day with her. She deserves it.
@Smegga: No, that was Ina Garten, the “Barefoot Contessa,” who’s a spoiled, annoying Long Island bitch.
Yep, that’s right. Your American cooking hosts all look the same to me, so I got mixed up. Thanks.
Deen is still a piece of work though.
diabetes…it isn’t all that much fun. most diabetics, try to act as if their disease isn’t there, then, stretch, or bend the rules, guidelines, and what-not. unfortunately for her, paula dean, has this affliction, and needs to wake up before, she loses, her toes, feet, and eye sight. any diabetic will tell you, this freakin’ disease is a daily struggle, and a nightmare that never ends, until you do.
@ghostmarine
Couldn’t help but hear William Shatner’s voice in my head as I read your comment. Perhaps, all the commas, are, unnecessary.
It wasn’t the butter that did it, it was the copious amounts of starchy carbohydrates and mounds of sugar that led to her diabetes. Don’t blame the fats for the problems caused by sugar and mountains of carbs.
Join the crown, Deen. I miss pizza, rice, and cookies the most. She’s a complete bitch for promoting, even advocating a diet that promotes type 2 onset. Sometimes karma is actually karma.
The type of food you eat (butter, sugar desserts ) DOES NOT
cause diabetes, that’s a misconception. Type 2 diabetes is a disease of aging (she is 64) & that plump belly she has is a hallmark sign of insulin resistance. Her body cells cannot respond to insulin, glucose cannot get in to her cells so it stays in her blood stream raising blood sugar levels to abnormally high levels & that is Diabetes.
Chances are if her weight was normal she wouldn t have it,& if she loses significant weight she may restore her insulin sensitivity & get normal glucose levels back. The other woman Ina Garten also looks insulin resistant as she is over 60 & has that chubby belly too. It happens to women after menopause when estrogen loss causes the body fat to get stored in the belly.
If you google the phrase “insulin resistance” lots of useful info comes up. The folks generally have high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol & other blood fats, possible heart disease & kidney problems. Hey Mother nature has to knock us out some how so she uses this Metabolic syndrome or Insulin resistance they re the same thing.
Why are people so judgmental? Having diabetes isn’t a funny thing and if I were in her shoes I can’t say I tell everyone about having it. It’s her life and if you don’t like her, don’t watch her! I personal like Paula and at times watch her. I too have diabetes but don’t broadcast it to the whole world! Just on stupid sites like this! Oh my, I’m judging this site! Shammy on me!!!!!!!
