NBC Drops ‘Wonder Woman’
05.13.11Good news and bad news, y’all. The bad news is that we’ll never get to see Adrianne Palicki run around in various Wonder Woman costumes on our HD televisions. The good news is that we’ll never be disappointed with how bad David E. Kelley’s “Wonder Woman” remake was, since NBC passed on the pilot. Gamma Squad has a timeline of bad decisions that led to its creation and ultimate demise.
As NBC gears up for its upfront presentation next week, here are the shows that will make its new lineup:
- “Harry’s Law” and “Parenthood” have been renewed.
- “Chuck” is rumored to be getting a 13-episode order. UPDATE: It’s official.
- “Playboy” starring Amber Heard.
- “Awake,” a drama described as “Inception for TV.”
- “Grimm,” “a dark but fantastical cop drama about a world in which characters inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales exist.” [EW]
- Sitcoms starring Christina Applegate and Whitney Cummings. The Chelsea Handler sitcom starring Laura Prepon is rumored to have a good chance of pick-up as well.
- “Smash,” the Steven Spielberg-produced “Glee” knock-off about Broadway.
- “Prime Suspect,” based on a successful British miniseries.
All in all, it should be interesting to see how NBC fares in its first full season under Kabletown Comcast ownership, and for the sake of smarter television I hope it turns out well. But man, that David Kelley script must have truly been PUTRID. Because it couldn’t have been easy to say no to this:

Does this mean no 17th Precinct? Poop.
But at least NBC is being less dumb? I mean, there’s nothing Jay Leno Show awful and they didn’t cancel anything great.
I’m as big a fan of Adrianne Palicki’s tits as the next guy, but I agree with NBC, nobody wants to watch Ally McBeal with a lasso and magic bracelets.
Between the crappy bolt-ons and her Mogwai like face, this ain’t a loss.
@Patty: You’re correct, NBC passed on Ron Moore’s “Magic Cops!”
Look, I know I’ve made this joke before, but I’m going to keep referring to her as Adrianne Palicki-boomboomdown until I stop finding “Informer” references funny.
Pack a lunch people, it could be a while.
BUT IT HAD LIKE HALF THE CAST OF BSG!!!
Magic Cops sounds like a great vehicle for Gob.
Grimm,playboy,awake,smash
No wonder it didn’t get picked up. The title is waaaaaaay too long! 4 syllables?! Fuck that!
The Kelley Wonderwoman script was god-fucking-awful, for the record.
LA Times article this morning about NBC’s attempt to attract younger viewers with Glee inspired “Smash” starring… wait for it… Debra Messing and Angelica Huston.
Hey Kidz!
Harry’s Law would be a good name for my dick.
Whitney Cummings is a pretty funny stand up comic, which means her sitcom will suck dick. Anyone see those clips of Greg Giraldo’s failed pilots during his posthumous special? Wow, they were bad.
As long as Parks and Rec and Community get a full season order, I’m happy.
What’s up with The Event, started off pretty crappy, but Taylor Cole was too hot to stop watching, and it eventually got better.
Please, please, PLEASE tell me that Outsourced was cancelled. Fuck that show with a 24 inch purple dildo. If that show was a person I would perform one hundred hate crimes on it. Not because it was Indian, but because it was retarded and I was afraid it would ruin our bloodline as smart Jersey Shore watching Americans. Again, fuck that show. And I even liked the movie it was based on.
