The Best Of The 9th Annual Corgi Celebration

The Best of the 9th Annual Corgi Celebration

When Matt sent me an e-mail last month confirming whether or not I was in Austin, Texas, and asking me if I’d go to a local corgi gathering and cover it for him, I jumped at the opportunity. Being the editor of With Leather is fun and all, but as a sports blog we don’t really get the opportunity to share adorable dog pictures, and the closest we’ve got to a recurring animal feature is Kate Upton at the circus.

Long story short, I spent my Saturday morning ankle-deep in cute dogs at Buda, Texas’ 9th Annual Corgi Celebration: A Royal Affair. The website made it look like a Ren-faire for dogs so I was a little disappointed at the lack of dog-back jousting, but the demonstrations, agility testing and costume contest (!) more than made up for it.

A few disclaimers, before we begin:

- I was personally introduced to tons of dogs, but I don’t remember all of their names. If you happen through this and are the dog/owner of a dog pictured, be sure to send in your info and we’ll get you clearly identified. The same goes for any time I went with the wrong gender pronoun. I’m also willing to identify your pet as a “dog-bodied person”.

- These pictures were all taken by me, so I get the © notation, but we don’t plaster Warming Glow watermarks all over everything so if you want to borrow a picture it’s fine, just link back to us. Also send me money, because this is serious business.

- Again, thanks to Matt for giving me the heads up on this and letting me cover it for the site.

Please to enjoy the very best of the 9th Annual Corgi Celebration: A Royal Affair.

Corgi Friday's Hover Corgi

[Via poorfilmstudent]

The Internet is the worst place to work on April Fool’s Day. I am 99% sure that this photo is a scam and that Hover Corgi is not actually able to hover in real life. Although a corgi evolving hovering skills would probably devolve its legs to the point of nothingness, and you’d just have these weird monorail snake dogs zipping all over the place.

But yeah, this looks shopped. I can tell by the pixels. I bet they got together and talked about it before they took the picture. This is scripted entertainment.

A Corgi Friday gallery follows, and if you stick around until the end you’ll see a pair of videos showcasing the other deadly skills assimilated by the Corg.

Greatest Show Ever Made Coming to Netflix Instant

04.01.11 Written by Brandon

what would these guys do if you sang out of tune?

Twentieth Century Fox has signed a new multi-year, nonexclusive digital distribution agreement with Netflix. The first two seasons of Sons of Anarchy and the first season of Glee will start streaming on Friday, but that’s not the news. The news is that the deal gives Netflix access to the Twentieth Century Fox library, which means that The Wonder Years. And Ally McBeal, but who cares because THE WONDER YEARS. Fox will also make a number of library movies available to Netflix after their premium pay television license periods conclude, but furthermore I would like to reiterate The Wonder Years.

I have long championed TWY (as well call it in Wonder Years fan forum circles … not really) as the best show in the history of television, notably in the 25 Best Moments Of article on Progressive Boink. The Wonder Years has never hit DVD in any form greater than ABC Family bootlegs thanks to all the licensed music the show used, and because the Devil is a real person who looks to make our lives worse with his ways. Hopefully the entire run will make it to Netflix intact, and the worst thing you’ll have to live through is that crappy cover of “Blackbird” they used instead of the real one when Kevin and his dad are using a telescope.

Or, you know, this is just an April Fool’s joke designed to enrage me and make me throw my computer through a window. Why are some April Fool’s jokes just lies? That’s not a joke, it’s incorrect information. Hit me in the face with a shaving cream pie, don’t tell me you’re pregnant and then say “lol jokes.”

Not that that has happened.

More Like Doctor When, Am I Right

Matt Smith of Dr. Who

Via our friends we won’t publicly admit to having at Gamma Squad, BBC has released the Doctor Who season 6 promo trailer.  Have you ever wanted to watch “Stargate,” Harry Potter, Firefly, the “Saw” movies and Keeping Up Appearances all at once?  You’re in luck.  I think I also saw a little “Event Horizon” in there.  No word on whether Matt Smith’s head starts to fill out in adulthood or if he’s stuck looking like Frisky Dingo for the rest of his life.

And now, post jump, the trailer, in all its glory.

The Brownest Eye

Snooki: The Brownest Eye

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi was paid $32,000 by the Rutgers University Programming Association to spend 1/24th of a Thursday talking about her hair, fist pumping and something called “GTL,” which I’m going to guess is her finishing move.  32 Large is $2,000 more than the $30,000 the university is paying Nobel-winning novelist Toni Morrison to deliver Rutgers’ commencement address in May.  I guess it pays better to be a cow than to write about having sex with one.

I think we could stand to have more reverence for things.  When I was in school, I got to meet and speak with Ernest J. Gaines and Sister Helen Prejean.  Those are really important, life-shaping memories for me.  I can’t imagine where I’d be if I’d spent college snickering to myself about how Colleen from Survivor is speaking at our auditorium and how I totally should go.

If this appearance was anything like her WWE stint, Rutgers dropped 32 grand on the word “bitches” and some arrhythmic Go Daddy spinning-in-place.
