Haughty left-wing bloviator Keith Olbermann is going back to work. I’d say he’s going back to TV, but… not really. He’s going to host a show on Current TV, Al Gore’s struggling cable network.

Olbermann will launch a new nightly primetime news and commentary show later this year on the net, which is currently in 60 million U.S. households…

Current TV co-founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt indicated that hiring Olbermann is the first step in a plan to build a primetime commentary block on the network, a move that presumably will make it more competitive with the major cable news networks. Current TV can use all the help it can get — ratings are so modest they’re not even ranked in Nielsen’s cable charts. [Inside TV]

Current TV is so far off my radar that until today I thought it was just a website/online media company. And this story bores me so much that 90% of my effort in writing it was looking for something more interesting to write about. Really, the only thing that can salvage this is Ben Affleck’s impression of Olbermann. And when you say something like, “the only thing that can salvage this is Ben Affleck,” those are dire straits indeed.

Today in foreign awesomeness, Taiwanese news service NMA has recreated the Al Gore sex allegations using the power of computer animation (much as it did with the Tiger Woods accident).

Now, if you’re anything like me, you have ripped abs and never bothered reading any of the news stories about Gore’s sex allegations. From the snippets I caught on Twitter, I gathered that it happened in Oregon and had something to do with a poodle. So given my near-total ignorance on the subject, this video in a language I don’t understand is actually quite enlightening. Gore got a massage, wanted a happy ending, tried a little daggering, and then, uh… talked about George Bush and Pink? I dunno, the bottom line is that it ended just the way sex usually does: with lots of tears and hurt feelings.

What with me being on the West Coast and writing about sports this weekend, I wasn’t around to watch “Saturday Night Live.” And yet, somehow, the world continued spinning. Crazy but true.

Strangely enough, the last time I didn’t watch “SNL” was the same time that the first of Kenan Thompson’s “What Up With That?” sketches aired. I loved the first one because it turned so many “SNL” conventions on their heads: it’s a talk show sketch that isn’t the usual lame talk show sketch, it features guest stars and blatantly refuses to use them in any meaningful way, and the fact that the skit goes on too long is part of the joke. That said, I REALLY hope this doesn’t become a recurring skit. Because this could get old real fast.

Anyway, I didn’t catch anything on Twitter about people thinking it was a terrible episode, so I’m going to assume that host Joseph Gordon-Levitt did a decent job until I finally get around to watching this a week from now. I like JGL despite the three names thing. Brick was awesome, and he was really good in Mysterious Skin despite that movie creeping me the hell out. It’s pretty funny to joke about beating and raping someone with a shampoo bottle, but it’s something else entirely to watch it happen.

I don’t break a whole lot of news around here, but I have a reliable industry source who’s confirmed that former vice president Al Gore will appear on the Christmas episode of “30 Rock” next month.

Now, if I wanted to meet the standard of TV industry reporting, I’d be spending a lot more time writing things like “scoop” and “exclusive” in all-capital letters with extra exclamation points — and maybe some question marks for good measure, just in case. But I’d prefer to hold on to a shred of my dignity and act like I’ve been here before (unlike certain breathless retards who shall remain unnamed). It’s not like I’m awesome because someone deemed to give me a piece of information. I’m just some jackass with a blog. Just like every jackass with a blog.

But anyway, yes: Al Gore will be on “30 Rock” this Christmas. That’s a Warming Glow exclusive. Big whoop.
