Ugh.

Today in “TV clips that will make you dumber,” Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar walked off the set of “The View” (video below) after guest Bill O’Reilly badgered them with his prickly brand of political discourse. Which is a nice way of saying, “He was a real dick and engaged in typical right-wing Muslim-baiting.” Not that I’m sticking up for any of the women on “The View.” All of these people are awful, and no part of this video should be watched by anyone who enjoys intelligent and thoughtful debate.

This is why I spend all day making cat Photoshops and looking at pictures of naked women. It’s more spiritually fulfilling and intellectually challenging than political discussion in America.

MORE JON STEWART AND BILL O’REILLY

02.05.10 Written by Matt

The blog-reading demographic doesn’t often overlap with the “O’Reilly Factor”-watching demographic, so I figure many of you may have missed the final segment of Bill O’Reilly’s interview of Jon Stewart. In the video below, they discuss global warming, Iran/nuclear weapons, and Sarah Palin. The two are their usual selves — Stewart can be too glib; O’Reilly leans toward the bombastic — but all in all I’m pleased that there’s an actual exchange of differing ideas on a cable news channel. I hate to say this about Fox News, but it’s actually… fair… and possibly kind of… balanced.

Up next on Fox News: Glenn Beck demonstrates the imminent failure of health reform by setting himself on fire.

VIDEO: JON STEWART ON BILL O’REILLY

02.04.10 Written by Matt

So here’s video of Jon Stewart’s appearance on Bill O’Reilly. I found it an interesting and relevant interview, but I’m not going to say anything because people get all up in arms if I express anything resembling a political opinion. People get upset because I don’t heap adulation on “Lost.” So how ’bout this, People Who Prefer Complaining to Telling Jokes: How about you little twats stop bitching every time you read something you don’t like on the Internet and just shove it up your ass. I guess that’s technically a question, but I’m leaving off the question mark because I mean it as more of a directive.

Part two of the interview, which is more about Fox News, is below. I’m going to go drink some coffee now.

SNAKE VS. MONGOOSE! JON STEWART ON O’REILLY FACTOR TOMORROW

02.02.10 Written by Matt

Set your DVRs, people. Jon Stewart is going to a guest on Bill O’Reilly’s show in a two-part interview that will air Wednesday and Thursday. The two have gone head-to-head twice that I know of: in 2004, Stewart went on “The O’Reilly Factor” to promote America: The Book, and O’Reilly appeared on “The Daily Show” after the 2008 election to promote one of his books (both video clips are embedded below). But nobody has a book to promote this time, and given Barack Obama’s in-person smackdown of the GOP and its refusal to engage in bipartisanship, we’ve got the table set for fireworks tomorrow.

Although why someone would set a table with fireworks, I don’t know. You should really set tables with place mats and eating utensils, not explosive devices. Otherwise someone might get hurt dinner. Which is why this should be compelling television.

BARACK OBAMA: SATAN, OR MERELY EVIL?

11.18.09 Written by Matt

My least favorite posts to write are the ones of a political nature, because they never have anything to do with cats and the people involved are almost always ugly. Take, for example, this video in which Bill O’Reilly says to his guest Lou Dobbs:

Final question. Barack Obama: Is he the devil?

My head already hurts just imagining the comments that this post is going to get. Because people who like Obama are going to say that Bill O’Reilly is either insane and/or preposterous and/or moronic, and people who don’t like Obama are going to say that it’s so OBVIOUS that O’Reilly wasn’t serious. And then we’ll talk about Olbermann’s “Worst Person in the World” segment, and the various Satan comparisons that George W. Bush earned, and Jesus Christ why did I choose to go through with this? If anyone needs me I’ll be watching Keyboard Cat videos.
