GRADE FOR NEW ‘BORED TO DEATH’ TRAILER: A++

09.11.09 Written by Matt

The full trailer for HBO’s “Bored to Death” finally got uploaded to YouTube, and my hopes for liking this show are now officially sky-high. If you’re unfamiliar with the premise, Jason Schwartzman stars as a struggling Brooklyn writer who’s read enough Raymond Chandler to think he can be a private investigator, so he puts out an ad and starts taking cases to get over a devastating break-up. Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson co-star as Schwartzman’s best friend and agent, respectively.

I’m admittedly not a huge fan of Schwartzman because he’s extremely short, has a stupid haircut, and got to make out with Natalie Portman. However, I’m willing to look past that because Zach Galifianakis is the Greek god of making me laugh. Plus I’m gay for anything about Brooklyn or reverent of Raymond Chandler. And the trailer gives us glimpses of Warming Glow favorites Kristen Wiig, Parker Posey, John Hodgman, and Patton Oswalt. That’s a whole lotta awesome squeezed into two and a half minutes.

In related news, I can finally spell “Galifianakis” correctly without looking it up. Congratulations, Zach: you’ve arrived.

‘BORED TO DEATH’ LOOKS F’N TERRIFIC

06.18.09 Written by Matt

“Bored .to Death” is a comedy series set to debut on HBO in September, and the first trailer has set my hopes impossibly high.  It’s written by the excellent Jonathan Ames and stars Jason Schwartzman as a Brooklyn writer and Zach Galifianakis as his comic book-writing best friend.  From a BuzzSugar post last year:

The show centers on Schwartzman’s character, Jonathan, a 30-something struggling writer living (and drinking heavily) in Brooklyn.

Whoa, it’s like looking in a mirror.  A mirror made of words.

After he breaks up with his girlfriend, he decides to refashion himself as a private detective in the vein of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett heroes. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan “takes out an ad pretending to be a private detective and starts taking cases — solving some and making others worse.”

The trailer also includes Ted Danson, Kristen Wiig, and Parker Posey, plus “Daily Show” expert/author/”PC guy” John Hodgman gets punched in one episode, so there’s no way I could possibly be more excited for this.  Unless Schwartzman cut that stupid f-ckin’ hair.
